Sorry, Canada, No iPhone For You (Maybe): Blame Rogers

iphonecanada1.jpg

Forget about getting your hands on the iPhone, Canada, because Rogers, your only GSM provider, just said any and all information on the iPhone’s availability on its network is pure speculation. (Remember, the iPhone is a GSM-only device.) Not only that, but analysts also said that Rogers might not even carry the iPhone at all if it doesn’t prove to be cost effective. That’s what happens when you have a universal healthcare system.

But yeah, how realistic is it for Rogers to withhold the release of [probably] the most important cellphone ever? We already know plenty of Americans have been bothering AT&T to know when they can purchase one. Lord knows what’ll happen if people don’t get their precious iPhone. So good luck with that, Canada, and be sure to thank Rogers for keeping to the phrase “the customer is always right.”

UPDATE - “Hence, just today, on April 6th 2007, we’ve made a call to Rogers Wireless regarding the CBC report. Rogers Wireless customer representative Amanda, (1-877-764-3772), told us the following.
According to Amanda (whose last name we were unable to get due to Rogers policies), “We [Rogers Wireless] are going to offer the iPhone in Canada… We’re just unsure of the exact release date.”"

I’m not worried.

Indeed I’m a Rogers subscriber now because they are the only ones that provide GSM technology, but someone will come to the market to kill them eventually.

Virgin Mobile came and shook things up with WNP, so it’s only a matter of time before someone stirs up the GSM market too.

hmmm Fido is GSM and so is Bell IIRC

who cares, buy a phone, mail it to your cousin jake in the states, and get him to mail it up here, huzzah, problem solved………thats how i got my K-790a ericson………the retards at rogers said they wanted 200 bucks to unlock their phone……..i gave them the finger over the phone and bought it from sony’s site…….the retards at those mall kiosks and over the phone are just that………retards………go get a sim card, get a plan on it, then smile and walk off

Fido is Rogers and I’ve vaguely heard of Bell IIRC but I guess it’s not all across Canada. Unfortunatly Rogers is the only logical choice. Also it won’t be so easy to use the iphone in Canada. Cingular had to have a whole new voicemail system I heard. If you watch keynote announcing the iphone, it does make sense. There will be lots of changes required in order for the iphone to work.

“That’s what happens when you have a universal healthcare system?”

Something y’all might have a crack at too if your government wasn’t more interesting in playing a little WTC Jenga.

Now who’s cost effective?

In response to “can we put our sim card in and make calls”. No you cannot. The iphone is locked like most phones. You will need to get it unlocked to be able to function it and make calls. Currently, apple came up with version 1.1.2 replacing version 1.1.1 making it more difficult to unlock.

I don’t care about Iphone at all. All I’ve heard is just a bunch of negative remarks about iphone. I want Blackberry Bold - this should be something for real. The publication above to me is another american cry about iphone which is not doing really well.
