In all likehood the bidder was attempting to bid $100.99 but made an error in his typing. If you've ever spent any lengthy time on ebay trying to buy several things at once, it's probably happened to you. It's simple to overcome by just cancelling the bid and explain to the seller why.

Good theories, but my guess is this guy made up the entire thing, just to get the attention and stuff his cookie in the link to eBay. Here's the redirect:

Location: http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-1751-2978-71/1?AID=5463217&PID=1798229&mpre=http%3A%2F%2Fcgi.ebay.com%2FSony-VGN-FJ270-B-Vaio-Notebook-Excellent-Condition_W0QQitemZ130097169894QQihZ003QQcategoryZ140084QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Complete with CJ ids in there. No matter, in the end, someone fooled someone else, and the fooler made some money off the fool. The question is, did the fooler make $10K off a single fool from a laptop sale, or a few bucks off many fools by using their affiliate link in a fake story?

Looks like the auction was cancelled after all (unless it's old news and it's been 90 days since the auction ended)

</blockquote>
 This listing (130097169894) has been removed or is no longer available. Please make sure you entered the right item number.
If the listing was removed by eBay, consider it canceled. Note: Listings that have ended more than 90 days ago will no longer appear on eBay.

Here's my theory:

"Guy A" lives with roommates, "Guy B" and "Girl A" (who happens to be Guy A's sister!) While Guy A is at work late one night, there is a power outtage and Guy B and Girl A hookup and make a "special video" using an HDD camcorder. They decide to borrow Guy A's laptop to temporarily save and view the video. Unfortunately, after saving the video to the laptop's hard drive, the laptop runs out of battery power. Since the power was out, they couldn't recharge the laptop battery.

Well, surely enough, Guy A comes home and it turns out that the power outtage fried some of his home theater equipment. He decides to sell his "unused" laptop for the extra cash to get a new receiver. Guy B and Girl A panic and get into a fight. In the heat of the argument, Girl A insults Guy B's...uh... performance. Guy B then decides he's going to buy the laptop off of Guy A and share the video with Girl A's boyfriend! (That's right, she was a cheating whore!)

Guy B already had a laptop from work and obviously didn't need another one, so instead of acting suspicous and trying to buy it off his buddy, he figured he could just try and buy it off of Guy A's ebay auction anonymously.

Girl A decides to do the same and the ebay battle begins! Day after day, hour after hour, they let their wallet/purse do the talking until it reached over 10k on ebay.

Guy A is thrilled and then reformats the computer before shipping out the computer. In their releif, Girl A and Guy B hookup again.

It's either this, or someone accidentally bid more than they meant to...
