Video professionals rejoiced — rejoiced, we tell you — on Sunday as Apple unveiled Final Cut Studio 2. Due out in May, this behemoth of a package comes with all the necessary tools to, ah, you know, create a movie. Improvements include Apple’s new ProRes 422 format for uncompressed HD, Motion 3 with a new UI, Soundtrack Pro 2, Compressor 3 for batch encoding, DVD Studio Pro 4.2 for SD and HD authoring, and lastly, Color, a new app. that’s used for grading color and comparison checking.

This whole new package is full of all the professional tools you need to make movies and it comes with a lot of new features that makes it worth not pirating. Also introduced was Final Cut Server, which is designed for post-production and broadcasting work (think ILM and Pixar). You’ll be able to order FCS2 come May from the Apple store. As I stated earlier, the full version will cost $1299, an upgrade from Final Cut Studio will set you back $499, and those still stuck on FCP will have to pay $699.
