  • The new XL already looks like it will be a very successful device. I’m in the market for a gps and I really like how they made the screen bigger. I know a few friends with the One and love it so I’m sure the new device won’t disappoint! Good move by TomTom.

  • The problem with TomTom products is that the touch screen gets out of alignment, and they’ve not provided any mechanism for re-alignment (like all other touch screen devices i’ve ever used). Their solution to the problem was to try to sell me a whole new device for the super-duper price of only $500. On top of that, their response call to my “emergency” support request (I was on a road trip when it happened) took 2 weeks.

I loved their product, and recommended it to many others, until this happened. As a company owner myself, I’m acutely aware of what it means to have good customer service. All vendors have problems. What separates the good ones from the pack is what they do about them.

I would never buy another product of any kind from this awful company.

    • I have a TomTom one XL that I bought thru the Ft Cambel PX and from the very begining it keeps turning itself on and depleting the battery if not caught in time. I have contacted TomTom suppory since the first purchase and get the same answer rvery time I contact them reinstall the software which does not help at all. The finally replaced the unit believe it or not with a refurbushed one which still does the same thing. To this day I still have not gotten a fix from them.

  • mmmmmm brt doesn’t like TomTom’s latest and greatest GPS unit because he/she had a bad experience with CS in the past?? Ok anyways…for those of you who are actually interested in learning about the ONE XL I have a few observations form the research I have done on this unit. I have a fair amount of experience with the original TomTom ONE and the ONE XL has what its predecessor lacked. It has turn by turn audio directions or Text-To-Speech (TTS), which is great, and it also has Bluetooth capability. The Bluetooth feature is something I always enjoyed using on the TomTom 910 and honestly wanted for the ONE. Both of the upgrades make it easier and safer to use your GPS unit while driving. With TTS you are hearing your directions so you don’t always have to look down at your GPS unit to ensure that you are driving in the right direction. Bluetooth allows you to make “hands-free” cell phone calls through your GPS unit so that you can keep your hands on the wheel where they belong. I’m excited to try out the ONE XL!

  • Larry Lakes , do you work for Tom Tom? Your report seems like a company copy rather than an impartial user

  • I have the same problem with my original tomtom GO. I still think it is an excellent unit but I wish tey wuld provide some way of aligning the touch screen. i also feel they should provide updaes for map errors for free. there are rather a number of them (it gets dreadfully confused over where the A1M goes around the Nottingham area, it thought I was driving through a field and kept telling me to turn right or to turn the wrong way down the motorway!

  • Hey LarryLakes, I think that the new TomTom XL looks pretty sweet too but I don’t think it actually has the text-to-speech function on it. I think people can already buy it in Europe, and I saw over on Amazon that it’s suppose to come out middle of next month in the States.

  • I loved the TomTom One I purchased almost 2 weeks ago. I really liked the alternate route features and was very happy with it. Yesterday it started on its own, randomly going in and out of different screens, losing its location, not responding to the touch screen, etc. I took it back and I’m thinking about what to do for my next choice. I really wish it hadn’t crapped out on me because I really liked her and was looking forward to sharing some happy trails together:(

  • Have purchased TomTom One XL and can’t download a map to the 1 gb sd card. It is now apparent that TomTom are clueless when it comes to customer support.

Can anyone assist me with my download problems?

    • Stephen,
If you had any responses on how to utilize the external SD card, I would really appreciate if you could pass them on to me. I am having the same problem and would like to preload routes or destination points.

      Thanks,
      Dave

  • How can a product be so successful with such mediocre Customer Service. While I must admit they reply to my emailed questions the same day, what about those people who do not have access or know how to use a computer or internet?

As far as the SD problem mentioned above, have you checked that the SD card is not write protected? A lot of people are not aware that there is a little tab on the side that is intended to protect the card from accidentaly overeritting it. Useful if you have paid $$$ for the maps.

  • I had a problem similar to DGS. After one day of use the device could not pick up any satelites for several minutes, then it started turning on and off repeatedly and could not be stopped. I finally had to stow it in my glove-box while it continued to turn on and off until it ran out of power. Of course when I went to return it it turned on OK!

  • I borrowed a my sisters Tom Tom One gps and had several addresses and favorite locations dailed in. I wanted to delete all the addresses I put on but couldn’t w/o deleting “all” the others . I’ve tried everything, but no luck. Is it possible to ony delete specific addresses???

  • I recieved my TomTom One XL S for Christmas, I just love it, still looking for a good place to mount it in the truck. But, the one problem I have run into is the bluetooth opt., this device is not supported Verizon (for some reason) like the other higher end TomToms. Is there any idea of when they might incorporate Verizion for the XL S??

  • the XL-S does not support the phone function via bluetooth, it only uses the bluetooth for data transfer services (i.e. traffic, weather, etc) which sadly my iPhone does not support, so its a double strike out for me

  • I purchased the one XLS Nov 08, It worked fine up to a few months ago. Now I have to connect to the computer every 5 to 7 days for the quick fix sat pos or it is useless. It will not connect through my i-phone. I previously had a Garmin Street Pilot, for ten years never had to update it for it to find the sats!
