The Red One is fantastic for its ability to shoot natively in 4k mode. But what good is that if you can’t play it back? Toshiba was showing off a 56″ display it was calling 4k, even though it technically falls short. At 3840×2160, the P56QHD isn’t quite the 4,200+ pixels true 4k demands, but man it shows a pretty picture. That’s more than 3x the 1080p of the TV you’re saving for, punk. The 1200:1 contrast ratio isn’t tops, but it’s better than some. What’s great is the massive amounts of inputs the monitor gives you, four DVI jacks. Nice.

  • Matt,

If you do some reading you will find that 4k video resolution refers to exactly twice vertical and twice horizontal resolution of 1080p. 1080p is 1920×1080, thus the Toshiba display being 3840×2160 makes it a TRUE 4K DISPLAY.

The Red One camera shoots in a resolution larger than the true 4K resolution allowing for post-processing framing flexibility.

Furthermore, the Toshiba display is exactly 4x the pixel count of a 1080p picture.

    Respectfully,
    Marcin

  • 4K refers to the width of 4096.

    3840 < 4096.
