TurboTax Fails on Tax Day: Bloops!

The TurboTax forums lit up yesterday as hundreds of frustrated filers tried to press submit but only got server capacity issues. Hrmmm… the IRS only allows e-filing through CPAs or certain web services and those web services fail dismally. Sounds like the efficiency of the private sector at work!
A typical post?
Okay, so the deadline has come and gone and I still cannot get my filings to go through. Is Intuit going to reimburse me (and everyone else) when I have to pay penalties?????????????????

Server capacity problems on tax day? That should be somewhat expected. That’s why, if you plan on filing electronically, do your taxes early.

Although I completely agree that the companies should have the foresight and have the resources necessary to handle the last minute load…WTF is up with folks waiting until absolutely the last minute to get their taxes done?

Although I completely agree that the people should have the foresight to file their taxes early and squirrely…WTF is up with turbo tax melting down ON tax day, when their entire business is based on it.

@j.
Oh, I completely agree with you, but I wish more people would prescribe to the “well shit might just happen theory”.

Why wait til the last minute? A better more intelligent question might be, Why give the gov. my money one minute before I have to? I’d rather collect interest on my money for as long as I can! By the way, many many of us (I was one of the unfortunate folks last night) had prepared our returns weeks/months ago, but had waited to give our money away as long as possible. One lady had been in ICU with her father, others were traveling out of country, etc. There are many varied and totally logical reasons for not filing/paying until the last minute. To those of you high and mighty condemning us, obviously you got a refund and filed long ago. Good for you. Hopefully you never have to deal with the stress, but one day you may. Pray that you are not using TurribleTax when that time comes. MY BANK ACCT WAS CHARGED IMMEDIATELY for filing fees, but return was not transmitted. Seems their payment servers were working wonderfully! I went to HRBlock.com around 11pm and painstakingly redid my taxes, then transmitted in less than 2 minutes! ‘Nuff said.

Well said, TurboTuckeredOut. I’m another TurblowTax unsatisfied customer.
There was also a bait and switch going on, too. They offered supposedly FREE federal tax return efiling, but THEN when you got it filled out, they automatically put my info in for state filing AND CHARGED ME for it.
Tennessee does not have any state returns to file, and I was not given an option to opt out.
They charged me thirty three bucks, for a service I never even received or needed! And when I called customer service, I was told I would have to wait until it processed before I could even try to get the money back. Say WHAT???? I work with the public, and with credit cards, and that is total bull.
Funny that I went to TaxAct in desperation, it was actually far easier to use, went very quickly, and as soon as I submitted it, it went through without one glitch. I beat the deadline by ten minutes CST.
What isn’t apparently understood is that it wasn’t only last day filers who got burned. Apparently, a whole lot of people had already filed days and even more than a week earlier, only to find out on the last day that their tax returns had NOT been efiled, and a lot of the people raising cain yesterday were those filers.
So instead of blaming the consumer, it would be nice if people would put the blame where it belongs, directly on the heads of those at TurblowTax, who apparently outsourced much of their operation to India and who did not provide the services they promised.

p.s. — here’s another reason many businesses and people with investments file as late as possible…..
