I’m not a big MMO gamer, but I’ve been hoping and dreaming on LoTR Online since I was a baby in my mother’s womb. I actually have a boxed copy upstairs and I’m about to install it — I have to take some meetings and write for you people a bit before I do — but there’s something about being a dwarf in the Prancing Pony that gets me hot and bothered.

The game is available now for $49.99 or $59.99 for a special edition version with a “Making of…” DVD, 30-days free gameplay, and a lock of Elrond’s glossy, Elven pubic hair.

  • A little too excited aren’t we Mr. Samwise Gamgee?

  • I have been beta testing this game for over a month now … its nothing new or special, which really sucks because I am a huge LotR fan and was rather excited about this game. If you’ve ever played Evercrack, DnD Online, or Wow you will see nothing new here. If you have never played these other games then you will probably be entertained for a month or so, at least until you realize that you cannot commit 14 hours a day to farming weed to become the first LotR drug lord. Now that beta is over I will not be continuing my subscription. I hope the game brings you more joy than it has brought me.

  • Thank you Anthony for your comment. I played Ultima Online for about 4½ years and even after I stopped playing I didn’t stop paying for my account for another year because I was so attached to my characters. After finally quitting, I avoided EQ, WoW and the likes as if my life depended on it…a LotR game would have probably sucked me back in… but your comment gives me strength. Thank you!

  • i would recommend seeing the Conan MMO… it has oblivion level visuals and it is a MMO!!, puts guild wars to shame..

  • I, like Anthony, have been beta testing this game. I got in on the closed beta in late December/early January. I’m going to say the same thing that Anthony said as well – if you’ve ever played a halfway decent MMO, skip LotR.

There’s nothing new as far as gameplay, mechanics, even graphics. And the world, while impressive in it’s own right, feels much too far-flung to make the game exciting. Since I started playing, I’ve often felt that this is a “grind” game, and it seems that is becoming true the more I read other people’s opinions of the game.

Rohan and Gondor VS Mordor and Isengard.

All forces built their structures , Gondor having more defences took longer to build.Rohan had built their structures and were readying their army of cavalery for the first attack , so Rohan saw this as an oppertunity to strike first at Mordor. However , The closer Rohan got to Mordor , Isengard saw what was happening therefore sending reinforcements to help.

Gondor at this moment had finished all defences and were in the midst of building their army. The attack at Mordor had began before the reinforcements of Isengard had arrived but Mordor had built an imence army of weak orcs.As the battle begun the cavalery were winning by a long way but Mordor had finished their towers therefore the Rohan forces began to shrink leaving the army to die , soon after , the Isengard reinforcements arrived with uruk hai and wargs.

Once Gondor had learned of the defeat of Rohan they put half of their army (archers with fire arrows) on top their walls , leaving the rest of their army with Rohan to defend their walls also meaning the Gondor army is half short of men. Rohan after suffering from this defeat started to rebuild their armys. Mordor and Isengard seeing this as a chance to get back for the quick attack prepare a counter attack with both armys to finish them off.

As Rohan finished building their army a rock flew at the walls of Rohan , Rohan who were startled by this counter readied the Gondor archers for firing , within seconds the armies of Isengard amd Mordor were blowing up walls with bombs and breaking down the gates with a ram Rohan did manage to stop the catapults but the ram broke through leaving only the cavalery as protection…. Soon after , Rohan gave up hope of protecting the castle leaving Gondor as a refuge.

After being chased by wargs to the Gondorian castle they passed through the gates. As the archers of Gondor began firing arrows at the remaining wargs.Rohan readied whatever was left of the soldiers aswell as a few Gondorian knights which were offered to help claim back what was theirs.Rohan and a part of Gondor rode out to attack swiftly to regain the castle , little did they know Mordor and Isengard were readying their own armys for a quick strike to get rid of Gondor….

As the new Isengard castle came into view the riders readied to break down the gates.Once through the gates only a few Isengard forces were waiting meaning a quick battle and the castle will be theirs.Meanwhile back at the Gondor stronghold the armies of Mordor and Isengard were readying for the raid upon the castle. Suddenly , five imence rocks came hurdeling towards the walls aswell as seige towers were preparing to breach the walls. As arrow men were defending the walls the crossbowmen counter attacked them , trebutches also attacked the seige towers which approached the castle walls.Orcs and uruk hai came into view as they climbed the seige towers , once on the walls it was upto the swordsman of Gondor to stop them.Whilst this was happening three rams were breaking through the gates which meant the trolls were coming!

Rohan , once taken over the castle realised their allies were in need of help so once in range they sounded the horn of Rohan across the Gondorian lands. The masses of armies looked towards the East to the Rohirrem they came down the hill with a quick march then a gallop, as the cavalery reached the armies of Mordor they ran them over row after row of orcs whilst the swordsman of Gondor had trouble of their own with the trolls who were not giving up without a fight as they raided through the districts of the castle , each structure knocked down one after the next but as Rohan soldiers broke down the Mordor troops they headed for the castle. But then another horn was sounded but it was not the Rohan horn….Ten mumakil came stomping through the lands with archers ontop the reinforcements had arrived breaking through the Rohan frontline and into the castle. One building stood between the fall of the Gondor castle and two mumakil were left standing , Gondor archers fired arrows into the mumakils pelt causing it to lean over dropping the contents of soldiers onto the floor letting the mumakil roam wild through the lands leaving one , who was already attacking the citadel three more hits and it would be gone , all fire was consentrated on the mumakil finally bringing it down!

The castles of Gondor and Rohan were saved…………….for now!
