Heysus, I would highly recommend not as you do need an amp to power these properly and reach it's full potential. The sound quality would be like driving a Ferrari at only 60 mph at the time.

Hi Mike,
If you're familiar with Headroom's Total Airhead amp ($100, made for ipod) would you consider it adequate for the AKG 701's or is it too much like putting a Yugo engine in a Hummer?
thanks,
Jerry

Any dedicated headphone amp will do. All I said was "Just make sure you have a decent headphone amp," as in, not a crappy one. I mentioned it because the built-in headphone outputs of many portable players aren't quite enough to drive them to full capacity.

Like your review of the K 701 earphones. I plan to use these earphones with the Boss GT pro guitar effects processor if compatible.
At the end of your review you say be sure the phone amp has enough power to run the K 701. What do you consider adaquate power? I dont know what to look for. The Boss GT Pro- effects processor's power supply is listed as 230v or 240v
AC117v. Power consumption 16w. Perhaps if you have time you can just key word "Boss GT Pro banana" on your computer and check it out if you dont mind.
Banana is a company that lists all the specs. Thanks . Steve B

Buy.com has them for under $300. When I ordered them, the site said they were out of stock but magically they got shipped the next day. They arrived today and are being broken in as we speak.
