Sony Increases Blu-ray Laser Production; Cheaper Diodes Promised [DailyTech]

  • Sweet. And not only just cheaper PS3s, that’ll mean cheaper Blu-ray players and Blue-ray drives as well right?

  • I have been a fan of Sony for a while up until this past year. I hope Blu-Ray is a success so they can pull themselves out of a rut of bad publicity (need I mention slaughtered goats?)

Yes, Mark, the technology is becoming cheaper and easier to manufacture which should mean BR will be pulling further ahead of HD-DVD soon.

  • that picture is kinda harsh…especially to a guy who brought the gaming industry out of its slump and produced the best selling console of all time. don’t be so negative.

  • Bryant-
The pic is meant to amuse. There’s been enough ps3 coverage over the last few days that another press pic would be absolutely boring. I still play my ps2, so I know what kuta brought to the table. How am I being negative?

  • Have you no respect Bryant? It grills the meats evenly on both sides while unwanted fats and oils are removed by a gentle slope. Notice the wide variety of meats and vegetables it accommodates. Surely worthy of Kutaragi himself.

  • Sony should not have put in Blu-Ray in the PS3. It just cost too much. I know plenty of people are waiting for the 360 and PS3 prices to drop significantly before they buy it.

  • Can’t we retire that dumb picture?

  • The PS3 was based around the Blu-ray, if it didn’t have it, it’d be pointless. The only reason why it costs so much is stated in the article, they’re waiting for the price of manufacturing to go down.

  • At almost 100$ a game (around here at least), you can tell where Sony makes its money… the PS3 is subsidized so even if they do manage to eek out some savings there… the gold was never in the system anyways. I wouldn’t expect a price cut anytime soon, what I would expect is bi-annual improvements (ei: larger HD, extra controllers, eye tracking thing-a-ma-bob).
