Feisty Fawn will be that lucky rabbit’s foot. This will be Dell’s second go around with Linux installed PCs and we all know how the first run ended. It fizzled out in two years, but the demand for Linux based Dell’s is growing according to the IdeaStorm site, so they’re diversifying in the hopes that it will boost sales and bring them back to the top. It was also announced that that the Linux forum on Dell Forums website has been improved and given a more ‘prominent placement’. Consumers will also have the option of purchasing support from Ubuntu’s backer, Canonical. There isn’t a firm launch date, but we’re told that the Linux based PCs will be available in the coming weeks.

  • Linux… almost there… but not yet user friendly enough for the average non-tech user… it has advanced dramatically in the past few years though. It needs a big chunk of change in the marketing department.

  • I think they should just sell the harddrive blank and send a disc with Ubuntu on there.
Then the user will have a little better understanding of the OS they are getting (into).

  • How is it not user friendly? I can say the same for Windows with the fact that you actually have to load up a browser to search for programs on weird adware ridden sites. The simple fact is that the major complaint about Linux is hardware support, and with it coming preinstalled that will be dealt with and installing programs doesn’t get any easier gui wise then the Add/Remove frontend. Then Firefox, Totem, Rhythmbox, Open Office, and most people are happy.
