Xbox 360 Making for Slow Going of GTA IV

gta.JPGAt Microsoft’s press conference during last year’s E3 Xbox exec Peter Moore happily announced that Grand Theft Auto IV would be making its debut on the Xbox 360. And a year later the game is still scheduled for an October arrival on the 360 as well as the PlayStation 3, but things are apparently going slower than Rockstar expected. GameDaily is reporting that Rockstar creative vice president Dan Houser has spoken up that developing the game for the Xbox 360 is actually more challenging than the PS3, in part because there is no guarantee of a hard drive in every unit and furthermore because the disc space is limited to DVD rather than Blu-ray. Houser added that both the 360 and PS3 have their own “pleasures and plains,” and both systems offer “enormous challenges.”

When your VP is doing pre-emptive PR on a product not out for a few more months yet… things can’t be seen as going very well at all… I find it odd how he compares DVD vs Blu-ray… it’s like comparing one IT generation to another - it’s a pointless and futile effort that only gets people pissed off ;-)

I say drop the 360 and stick with the PS3. Yeah! I said it!

(way off topic)
Mark… cool 3D work… looks great! I agree with you too… PS3 all the way!

I say drop the ps3 version and go all 360, who owns a ps3 anyway.

but seriously, I can understand the hard drive .

But complaining about the dvd is suspect to me, like sony put them up to it, or the article was written up by someone that wanted to make the ps3 version sound like its going to be better.

Noone has complained about dvds before and now using a dvd is difficult?

DVDs aren’t difficult - they just have roughly 1/10th the capacity of a Blu-ray… but what does make me wonder is what is taking up all that storage space… using normal compression codecs…. a DVD has an astonishing amount of space on it - they must have something really cool up their sleeves or saving everything in windows media player format hahahhaha

It all depend on how much they want to have on the disc itself and how much they want the gamers to download later for expansion/patches/etc.

DVD and Blu-ray are WAY different.

GTA not on a playstation console is ridiculous and just downright absurd.

(and thanks Jon! I’m still very much a noob)

Those gaming rock stars, and I don’t just mean Rockstar Games, think they can take forever to get a game to stores. At some point, it doesn’t really matter that it’s “Grand Theft Auto,” gamers will soon lose interest after waiting and waiting for it to come out on any system.

They may get tired of waiting, but I don’t think they’ll lose interest. And if they do, they’ll soon it get back once they find release is right around the corner.

Games are getting harder and harder to make these days compared to the olden days. There’s new, higher standards to meet in a less amount of time.

And Wii King, I think the Wii would be able to play GTA I and II, why don’t you send them an email requesting it. You may see III, VC, and SA on Nintendo in a few more generations. (I’m kidding!….but seriously)

I say they create the game assuming everybody who is going to play GTA IV will buy a fu%#in hard drive… I mean seriously… what turd goes out and buys a next gen console without a hard drive and does not buy one within 1 or 2 months? Also the turds who buy a next gen console without an HDTV, and complain when games like Dead Rising have fuzzy text…… FYI if your text is fuzzy… the game probably looks like a PS2 game…. buy a better fu#*ing TV or use a monitor… do you know why its next gen? Do you know what your even buying or where you are or your name? Do you research anything before you buy it or do you just like to buy shiny things? If you have the money to blow on a console then you have money to blow on a hard drive and a new HDTV…. my HDTV cost 280$, 20″ Sharp, not to spendy considering my console was 400.

i totally agree with diggle-b. i dont actually kno anyone who bought a next gen console without buyin a hard drive either with it or soon after it. and as he said HDTV aint exactly expencive compared to the amount people fawk out on consoles

Although this hard drive dvd media size crap sounds like a load, its still not rockstar who chooses to make games playable without a harddrive, its the xbox standards for creating the games that they have to follow.
