Zune Insider has announced the release of a new Zune ad, that seems a little too appropriate. As you can see, it depicts a legion of Zunes in an environment that looks considerably like a graveyard.
Now I still love my Zune, I hold to my original statement that it’s a great music player. But I have still yet to encounter a single Zune for me to share music with — and I’ve had the thing since it came out.

Let’s see
iPod marketing concept: own the music you buy (individual-centric)
Zune marketing concept: join the “social” (group-centric)
I can see Zune doing very well in Asian countries with their approach where the collective group is more important then the individual (korea, japan etc.) While the iPod continue to grow in more “I” societies.

I’ve finally been considering getting an MP3 player (I know, I’m like the last person to get one) but have been debating on whether I should get a Zune or an iPod. If I were to get an iPod, I’d go for the 80gb video, but I know the Zune only has 30gb. So as a Zune owner, Blake, what’s better about the Zune?
And.. Should I wait for ‘the next gen Zune’ or..
get the current Zune or..
just get the iPod
I like the idea of sharing music between players, but isn’t it only for like 3 playbacks then it gets deleted? Is there any way of saving it and actually keeping the song? Are there any good peripherals out for the Zune yet that compare to some ‘good’ iPod stuff? Oh, and with that nice widescreen, you can watch ‘hd’ movies, yeah?
I’ve found one zune on my wireless searches, but I don’t think it should count since a) I’m in seattle and b) it was in the ‘Microsoft’ health club. =)
@Mark: Personally, I wouldn’t get either Zune or iPod. I’d look at the Creative Zens first. If you wanted something small, the iPod shuffle clip is ok (I’ve been thinking of one for running, since the Zune is rather… well.. heavy.) If you’re thinking of running, the shuffle/nike combo is nice, but, me, I’d rather not get the apple stuff.
What’s better about the Zune? Well, honestly, nothing. But, I wouldn’t really say there’s anything worse either. It all ends up as trade-offs. The one thing that *could* become better is if MS goes wild and crazy with the wireless stuff and extends the functionality of it, like, say, throwing in a podcast downloader that will work with free wifi providers, or even allowing basic web browsing (I’d love to be able to check sports scores, headlines, specific bookmarks I throw on the device from a laptop), but, until that extension is done…
@John
that’s not entirely true, the screen on the zune is much bigger(finally a player that has a big enough screen that I can watch a full movie without feeling like my eyes are gonna fall out) and the zune has a much more robust and easy to use user interface. also for some people the up/down/left/right of the not-quite-scrollwheel is preferable to some people. Also you can change the background on the zune and it can play more different video file types. Basically, I’d recommend you look at an ipod and a zune live in action(say, at Best Buy) and decide from there. The look and feel is the main thing that sets the zune apart.
