iPhone: 20 Questions

iphone-and-jobs.jpg

I wrote an article via my 9rules account, on the 9rules site, posing a few opinions and questions about the upcoming Apple iPhone. A few of the questions are, “When your device is ‘dead’ after using the amazing 45 minutes of talk time that is possess, will your iPod still work?” and, “If I don’t pay for a contract, would it still work as an iPod although I have no cellular service?” Please hop over or let’s discuss in comments.

I want the iPhone without the phone. [9rules]

Hey Dewayne, thanks for the linkage. I’m one of those guys who’s going to buy the iPhone the instant I see it, but the points you make are definitely valid. Fortunately, I don’t commute anywhere so I can leave my iPhone plugged in all day long, so the battery life isn’t such a biggie for me. Let’s see how the battery does once I load up all my DivX AVI movies on it though :)

Are you exaggerating, or is it really 45 mins?
thats awful battery life if it is, useless really, you’ll need to have another phone to back up the iphone…
oh and why get an iphone for anything but the actual phone features, thats what ipods are for.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again the second version will be the one i get, and Apple doesn’t have the speed to keep up with other phone makers.

Apple (or any respectable company for that matter) would never introduce a product capable of a mere 45 minutes of talk time. Stop exaggerating and get real. The talk time will be anywhere near the 5 hours that steve jobs promised in his keynote (and that’s not including using the ipod. That has 16 hours). The iPhone obviously is lacking in some places, but that doesn’t mean it’s gonna flop. With the amount of time and money Apple has invested in this thing, they’d be idiots it they didin’t put out a device to would captivate the world. I am getting an iPhone the minute it becomes available.

Am I the only one that noticed that there are only 2 questions posed on the article? I thought it would be an interesting read with 20 thought-provoking questions, but instead it came off as more of a shameless plug for your other article.

I think the iPhone is a little over-hyped… I don’t see that pretty interface as being more than a novelty after a month or so. Also, no user replaceable battery? Come on Apple! When I travel I usually have an extra batt for my phone. And of course, that means that in a few years when your iPhone stops holding a charge, you will need to pay to have it replaced.

@Mike Rundel

I hope you are going to convert those DivX AVI files into h.264 before loading them onto your iPhone. Not to mention lowering their resolution so you can fit more than 4 on the limited storage.

Don’t expect the iPhone to have any better format support than any iPod. Its going to be AAC, MP3, and h.264.
