This past Friday Microsoft and Bungie offered a press preview for the upcoming Halo 3, which will arrive later this year. The upcoming first-person shooter is the latest title in the popular Halo series, and could be the much-needed “killer app” for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 game console. Previews for the game were staged in New York and San Francisco in advance of the public beta test of the game, which will go live this coming Wednesday. While Halo 3 offers new advancements including improved and vastly more realistic physics, some attendees felt the graphics still have a way to go to be true “next gen.”

I’m pretty sure that when companies do press previews they don’t show them rough-cut versions.
Dave, you do know what beta is don’t you? By beta, the game should be fairly close to the final product, the purpose of the beta is for players to submit bugs, not how ‘crappy’ the graphics are.
I saw a few gameplay videos on gamespot last night, though it does look better than Halo 2, I agree that it’s not as good as I’d like to have seen.
lol, there is no anti-aliasing on the graphics in the BETA. Bungie continually state that the beta graphics are not representative of the final game. And yes i’m aware of what a BETA release is, i’m a software developer.
Anti-aliasing is just a small portion of the visuals, an option. Yes it makes it look a lot better… but when talking about graphics in general you’re talking about the models, the textures, the lighting… so to say that all of that isn’t final means that they’re planning redoing it all by final release which is just ridiculous.
If anti-aliasing is the only thing that beta won’t have, the look of the game would still be like 98% complete. Anti-aliasing is an after-thought. But if you’re right in that they have stated the beta graphics are not final and they do have loads more work, then it may in fact look better at final.
