Don’t Like Girls? Make an AppleTV Render Farm!
by Vince Veneziani on May 21, 2007

Those guys over at AwkwardTV are really good at what they do, don’t get me wrong, but I’m pretty sure they just have a lot of free time on their hands and I’m going to guess that partying with chicks is at the bottom of their list of priorities. User Professafresh has successfully setup an AppleTV render farm using OS X’s Xgrid technology. Though Xgrid is geared more towards video rendering, Final Cut users, etc., that didn’t stop Professafresh from breaking out of the norm.

If you want to give it a shot, just be ready for two things: You risk possibly breaking your AppleTV and it will most likely void your warranty. Oh, and you probably won’t be able to take advantage of Xgrid for CPU-intensive tasks, considering that AppleTV isn’t exactly an eight-core Mac Pro.
