Crazy Rumor: Apple To Kill Off Mac Mini This Year

AppleInsider has a source whom it “holds the utmost respect for” that says that Apple will kill off the Mac Mini this year. They cite the fact that Apple never really liked the headless computer and that the company may have been pressured into making it by its shareholders. A nice backstory, and well worth a minute it takes to read, but without any real indication who this source is (I have a few guesses of my own), it’s kinda hard to take this information seriously.
Identifiable sources = important.

I hope this isn’t true. I love my Mini. The price point is great as a lure for people who want to get away from PCs but don’t want to spend $1200+ on a MacBook or iMac.
At least that’s why I bought mine.

Agreed, just like with the iMac I doubt they would leave these price slots open. If all rumors are true and the iMac and Mini are killed off, the cheapest Mac will start at $1099.
I wonder what Apple is going to do to fill those slots…

Well, they killed off the iPod Mini last year. It seems to me Steve Jobs just doesn’t like the word mini. I predict … the Mac Nano.

Mac Mini is too under-powered for my tastes, but I’m sure there is a consumer market for it.

I don’t think there is any computer from apple that have convert more windoz people to mac users than the intel mac mini. Apple need something that can make people to to take the step from pc-windows to mac-osx. And that junk with screens won’t to that. And the dual xeons are to expensive. For the losers that have a pc with all its accesorys it’s the way to swtich.
