Dell To Offer Exclusive Desktops At Wal-Mart Stores

dellwalmart.jpgHP and Gateway computers have been available at retail locations for a long time now, so I’m not shocked that Dell is testing the waters (I am surprised it took them this long.) Starting June 10, Wal-Mart stores and Sam’s Club locations throughout the U.S. and Puerto Rico (sorry Guam) will carry two exclusive desktops in bundles priced less than $700 (aka $699.99).

There are no details on what’ll be in the bundles or even a hint at the components, just that the first to hit all Wal-Mart stores will be a Dell Dimension multimedia desktop, which could mean simply that it’s running on Windows Vista Home Premium. (However, the press release called it a MULITmedia desktop, so maybe it’s all business up front, all party in the back.) A second model will appear in only 3,000 Wal-Mart stores later in June.

Better Walmart then trying to duplicate your “own store” strategy like Apple did - great way to test the waters before plunging in head first!

This is a cool move on Dell’s part. I wonder how it will affect their mall kiosk’s.
