The Perfect Pushup: Late Night Hype or Late Night Hype?

perfectpushup.jpg

Big arms, a ripped chest and cut abs. Those are some bold claims from the Perfect Pushup, two rotating handles that you use to do “perfect” pushups. It was developed by a U.S. Navy, though, so you know it’s top notch.

I won’t argue with the premise that push-ups are a great way to work out your entire upper body, but I always look at these late night infomercial things with a heavy dose of skepticism, even if it’s only $40. Who’s to say the guy pictured here isn’t on Anavar or Sustanon 250, in addition to using the perfect push-up? If you have a set of these let us know if they are worth the money, will ya?

Damn, when I saw the title of this posting the first thing I thought of was the perfect pushup BRA, and then it’s just some lame tool to destroy my dorito-powered chabs (= chest + abs, when the whole upper body becomes one big mass and you can’t really tell where one starts and the other ends).

Post something about pushup bras, will ya? Or at least give me some new LG gadget presented by their usual Asian eye candy. :-p

I see you are one sighted…they have actually helped me out immensley. You are just a jealous little b**ch because you can’t keep up with the big boys. I am in the US military and challenge your weak ass to a two minute set of pushups….are you up for it?

Wow. Try not to be so sensitive.

Sacha, I hope you were being sarcastic there. Lame tool? Dorito-powered chabs? hmmm, I’m guessing you’re a fat girl, aren’t you? Hmmm…

This guy on Sus (cough, cough)… I don’t think so… I agree with Sasha, should have used a cute Asian woman to demo this product - we need Peter Ha to the rescue!

Actually, I bought them and they really work, makes it harder to do, which definitely is a mixed blessing.

Its a 21 day routine. I started with a max of 10. After 21 days max went to 18. After the second 21 days max was 28.

I am now on a 21 day free weight schedule. Working weight on bench increased 20 lbs and I added 10lbs to the curl bar.

I’ll be alternating 21 days on perfect pushup and 21 days on free weight. Lots of crunches everyday:-)

I like the perfect pushup. If nothing else, it got me back into a routine:-)

Dude, I just got the perfect pushup and it’s badass. Put it this way, you can’t go wrong with a push-up. The perfect push-up just makes it better and more fun. Is it worth 40 bucks? I think so. Their high quailty, makes push-ups a lot more fun as I said and you get a deeper workout. I’m glad I bought them.

I just finished my first 21 day workout cycle with the perfect pushup and I went from 26max pushups to 36max on the perfect pushup. I was doing 60 regular non stop pushups but could only do 26 with the perfect pushup handles. They do work and make it tougher to do the pushups and give you a better tone of the muscles. I look considerably leaner but the cut abs part, you wont get from the perfect pushup, that takes eating right and doing some serious running. I like your 21day rotation of free weights and the perfect pushup John, I might have to try it once I get my perfect pushup max to 50.

I am currently on my second 21 day cycle and have noticed a difference in both strength and appearance. My first max was 15 and my second max reached 30 but decided i would record 20 to concentrate on my form. I also purchased the Power 10 workout which includes various push up like techniques. So far i am very pleased and would recomend the item to anyone eager to get off the couch and try something new.

46 yo former Marine here..

I’ve used Alden’s perfect push ups for about 6 months now, after taking a few years off and the results have been impressive.

They take push ups to a new level. The instructions and routine is very good as well. Almost worth the price itself.

They wont make you a body builder, but for those with limited time and looking for something that maximizes their training time, and adds a good deal of sculpting to the upper body with minimum investment of time, money and effort, the perfect push up is ideal. He even has a set that travels now. Perfect for the guy on the go.

I’ve tried going back to other push up devices that were stationary, and am forced to do double the number to match the results obtained with the perfect push ups. I can only conclude that the freely rotating handles are the key. The handles are wide and quite comfortable as well, and overall I’m impressed with the durability and build of the product.

I consider it money well spent. Highly recommend.

Start slow, use correct form, and in no time you’ll be impressed with the results as well.

I’m not affiliated with Alden, perfect push up or body rev in any way. Just a satisfied user.

Great comment… I too am a former marine and have started hitting the weights this past year. I am going to incorperate the PP in my routine. My wife purchased them for me for Christmas and using them was an eye opener. I can do nearly 100 push-ups, but only around 40 with the PP. Today was day 1… I’ll post my results in February…

heyy i realy want prefect push up where can i get them from in brampton or in windsor or mississagua like any store?????helppppppp!!!!!!and is it good for a 14 year old like me??

Sam

I’m 16 and i just started the workouts today, 1st day and i can feel the difference. Its not like I already have abs and huge arms my first day but my chest is sore and my arms and shoulders are sore..which is a good sign that the muscles are working out.
I like it and I think I’m going to be satisfied..have to wait to finish the 21 day routine though to be absoluetly sure..
It’s more comfortable way to do pushups and more effective way to workout ur muscles..
my max is 18 but I’m going with the max 10 workout to get the correct form and to see if it works.

I am a NSW/SEAL Officer candidate. I’ve been training for over two years to be in good enough shape to get selected to go to Navy SEAL training as an officer. It’s quite a challenge. One of the things I’ve had trouble with on the test has been push-ups. They want 100+ in 2 minutes. Really good guys do 110-120. As a runner and swimmer, I’ve only been able to get to 97!

I’d do workouts where I’d go 10 days straight doing 300 pushups per day, and rest for 3 days and start over. Through it all, I remained skinny and never developed more mass and strength, only endurance.

Well, a few weeks back my step-dad was commenting on the Perfect Push-Up commercial, and wondered what I thought of them. I was skeptical and told him they wouldn’t help me with my max push-up plight. Little did I know, he’d already ordered them for me as a surprise. Anything to do with SEALs, he buys me.

I started using them, and as an expert about how all types of push-ups make you feel, I can say these things tax you hard and fast. Never in a regular push-up have my biceps or forearms burned, but with these things my entire chest from the inside out, my lats, my tris and bis, forearms and rotator cuffs are burning and are pumped like never before.

I haven’t used them long enough to talk about improved max outs and bench presses, but they are building and defining my arms and chest already in just over a week. Regular push-ups have failed to do that for me.

Mike

Haven’t got the perfect pushup yet, but I for anyone looking I saw them at Dick’s Sporting Goods for sell. Most likely I’m going to pick a set up there.

AC

I am doing perfect pushups every other day and taking multiple protein drinks a day, along with getting healthy foods inside me everyday. I’m lean, but trying to add a little muscle. I tried the gym for a couple months, but it was too much work and too little results. Perfect pushups got me sore just like my first day at the gym, but as I kept progessing I could feel the muscle burn everytime.

Day 1 I weighed 125 and could only do 20 normal stance perfect pushups. I’m nearing the 3rd month(about 60 days) and I weigh 135. I haven’t tried my new max, but I do 3 20 chair pushups in a row. Chair stance is a lot harder than regular and I’m doing more. If I’m sore the next day I know I did well. If my arms are so tired right after a workout, that’s also a good sign. I also make sure to stretch the muscles before/after each workout.

On my off day I drink 3 protein drinks(1 cup milk, 1/3 cup protein powder. I used to use some lean muscle protein stuff, I use GMC’s XXX weight gain. Nasty at first for a while, but I’m used to it now). On my workout day I drink one in the morning, 1 one hour before workout and 1 within 30 minutes after workout.

And I try to run my dog at least 15 minutes every other day, on my off days. I have a high metabolism so it’s easier for me to burn off the bad and good stuff, but I’m taking in more goods and storing it…obviously. My parents are the same way, dad used to be small as a teen, but in his mid 20’s he got wider and bigger. I’m sure if I keep my schedule up I’ll see a bigger impact later on. I just turned 22 btw.

So yeah, perfect pushup+good diet+protein drinks/shakes=good weight gain. If you just need to lose weight, eat healthier and continue perfect pushups. And try going out to the treadmill or run outside on your off day. Always stay hydrafted. All I drink is gatorade, now G2 gatorade, has less sugar.

I just finished my first cycle, rested 3 days and remaxed to see how I did. A little background…I am 35, 170 lbs, and I havnt done any workouts in years. The first time I maxed, I got 10 push ups. After the first set, I had to take an extra day in between work outs because I couldnt bend my arms. After 21 days, I can tell I noticable difference in my arms, chest, and even my abs. I just re-maxed 15 minutes ago, and I did 20 in perfect form. I am a believer in the product, and if it has accomplished anything, it has motivated me to get back into shape.

Jacob (Who am I?)

I designed a much better “perfect pushups” product but I don’t have the marketing power that these guys have. My product is a fully adjustable rotating and vascillating handle that you can do hundreds of exercises with. Of course I also include ab straps. For a little more cash you get a million times better workout. I am looking for reviews. Interested let me know. http://www.perfectpushupstraps.com
Thanks!

James (Who am I?)

For you guys that are interested, here’s another similar rotating push up product that is also very good. And at $59.95 shipping included, and made of steel I can guarantee you wont wear it out.

http://www.pectorqr.com/index.html

It’s currently in use by many martial artists and boxing teams, and was invented by a martial artist. I have one, and it is a very simply looking but highly effective push up device.

If fact choosing between using the perfect push ups and this device is often a chore for me. They are both very good. The difference, the PectorQR is made of steel bar stock and more accurately targets the pecs due to its fly like motion.

Kim (Who am I?)

James,

Thanks for the information. I’d be interested in purchasing the pectorqr. After viewing the website for it, it looks like it would really provide an excellent chest workout. How long have you had yours? Have you noticed any joint strain or pain using the pectorqr? Thanks for any info.

Skeptical

It’s quite funny–many of these ‘testimonials’ for the product seem quite a bit manufactured. For others, definitely look into other products. I am a student finishing my B.S. in Nutritional Science and am planning to become ACSM-certified as a personal training instructor. It is always important to understand WHY you do an exercise, as opposed to attempting at building muscle/losing weight with ‘late-nite hype’ products that stress results that many desire.

no image
James (Who am I?)

Skeptical,

Take if from a former Marine who’s done probably a hundred thousand push ups of varying techniques in 46 years.

It’s simply about maximizing your time.

You can do push ups the old fashioned way with the corresponding wrist, elbow and shoulder stress, and lack of range of motion.

You’ll just have to do 3 times as many of them with a few other stretches and exercises to achieve the same results as you do with the better push up machines.

The perfect push up as an example keeps your wrist in alignment, and the rotating action relieves stress on the joints, and allow for a deeper push up for muscle stretching purposes.

You can get the wrist alignment and stretching benefit from standard push up stands. But not the twist action. In my view it’s a definite step forward, that increases muscle stress but alleviates some joint problems that many serious push up enthusiasts experience.

Now whether or not it’s worth the money is something everybody needs to decide for themselves.. For me it is.

*I have no association with any push up device manufacturer or marketer.

I love my pushupstraps from http://www.perfectpushupstraps.com, they really kick your butt! I have the new version which includes the carabiner connection for faster switching between my ab-straps and the handles. They are built tough and really are a harder workout than anything I’ve ever used. Check ‘em out at http://www.perfectpushupstraps.com.

They absolutely work. I bought them after talking to a body builder that said he gained 30 lbs on his bench press after using them for 6 weeks. My first three weeks have just finished, and I (my wife) could not be happier. My chest, arms, back, and abs have all improved greatly. No hype here….if you use it, they will not wind up in the corner like your ab doer or the Susan Summers leg squeezer. Buy them, use them…you will be happy.

I got the perfect pushup about two weeks ago and it has changed my body totally. I am a 29 yr. old male, 185 lbs.. I’ve worked out with free-weights for about a year now, and just got tired of the normal, everyday work-out. Well for me, the new workout ended up being the perfect pushup. My wife loves the fact that I bought them. I will say this, I’ve lost mass in my chest, arms and shoulders in the first two weeks, but I am way more defined. If you’re already on a fitness routine, I suggest incorporating the perfect pushup into your routine. You’ll realize, as I did, that you get more of a healthy workout. It’s easy to use bad form and cheat when you use free-weights, but perfect pushups don’t allow you to cheat. Every routine fully engages you muscles and works them out to the max. I also used to have a shoulder problem from doing regular pushups and benches, but now I have no pain and my body looks better than it ever has. I recommend 40 minutes of perfect pushup, 20 minutes of free-weights, and 20-30 minutes of light cardio. Rotate those workouts to do each 4 to 5 days a week, and I guarantee that as long as you don’t eat fast food everyday, you’ll see remarkable results. I’m not related to perfect pushup in any way, I’m just a satisfied user who can’t wait to see what’s to come.

Travis (Who am I?)

I was VERY skeptical at first, but I purchased the Perfect Pushup a week ago. I could feel the results in my arms and chest within the first two days. I workout about 3-4 days a week and take creatine/protein supplements. Yea, you always feel the results of a new workout routine, but this is a little different. My arms tightened up immediately, and the wide grip pushups have already tightened my chest a little.

No, I dont look like Arnold, but its worth the $$. I could do about 32-35 regular pushups before I bought this. Doing the Perfect Pushup, I maxd out at abbout 10-12. The routine they give you in the box is easy to follow and breaks it down for you over 21 days…Regular grip, wide grip, and close together. I have to do the close grip ones on my knees. I know, I know, not very “manly” but you have to start somewhere.

Overall, Im glad I made bought them. If nothing else, it has motivated me to keep the “pump” in my arms by doing pushups every day.

takesheart (Who am I?)

I have had the perfect pushups for several months and have posted on them earlier. I still highly recommend them. I was an avid free weight lifter but didn’t like the fact that I had to be in the gym 1 1/2 hours at least 3days a week and then had to go in on off days to do some cardio, while on a busy schedule. Perfect pushups have eliminated this, I get my workout done throughout the day and do cardio early mornings. The workout that the perfect pushup comes with is excellent and really works you out. I am up to 50 perfect pushups. They will not make you into some huge guy, I actually lost a lot of mass but did get the lean look and lost a lot of fat. I recommend doing some pull ups/crunches and running along with the Perfect pushups and you will be on your way to a better body. That program has worked for me. You cant even buy a bench for $40 and these will do a lot more for you.

I am now a fan of the perfect push up. I am sailor, my rate is ABE. I launch airplane for about 18- 20 hours a day out at sea. This is a great piece equipment to use to keep your upper body in shape. It helpful when you don’t have the time to go to the gym. I can do about 65 push up normal style. Working out with the Perfect Push Up I can only do 30 if I push it.

Steve (Who am I?)

I’m on my third 21-day cycle. The workout program is just as valuable as the rotating handgrips. For me, it’s really hard to stick with any exercise program due to time and motivation, but the program creates very achievable goals with very little amount of time invested and noticeable results. Two minute routines 3 times a day every other day is working out perfect for me.

My only question is what do I do after I complete the 50 pushup level?!

Obviously the guy on the infomercial has the genes of a thoroughbred. Will the perfect pushups get someone to Spartan status? Hell no. Do I recommend the product? Hell yes. They are perfect for someone who travels and doesn’t have much time to workout or if you are looking to take pushups to a new level then definitely buy them. Kudos to the SEAL that invented such quality. Anyone that begs to differ is weak.

I’m at the end of my first week of using the perfect push up today..

My first day I could only do 8 push ups with the the perfect pushup, I’m now doing the work out at the 10 level.. but I do extra with no problem.. I went from about 15 normal push ups to 25 in perfect form in a week.. Haven’t tryed to max out on the perfect push up yet since day one.

Will update in two weeks. best $20.00 I ever spent, was at walmart in St louis, Mo for $20.00.

Singleton

Decided to do a one set max to check my results from one week on the perfect push up today..

I was amazed when I did 21 push ups in perfect form.. I don’t think I will be able to do 25 - 30 at the end of week two but I can hope.. Its a great work out, takes 6- 10 minutes out of your day, You see results. Went from 8 push ups to 21 in a week.. :)

tjax (Who am I?)

I have them and it’s a great workout - saw results immediately. However, I’m not sure if the twisting motion or greater range is what gives the results. (if the latter, then just buy the cheaper push-up handles).

Also, I think for the price, the DVD should have come with it.

Loudog

Just bought them at Wally world for $20. Worth the money.

I’ve had my Perfect pushup for a two week now, This really works - Its hard for me to do the 21day think because I work two Job but, I feel the Power in my arms and my Chest is starting to fill out and form. I say to all that are thinking about getting it, to get it. I’m 34 and about 175 lbs now I’m solid

Skeptic

Ya know, I have seen these infomercials as well about these things, and I will probably buy them seeing as though a well done push up is a pretty fundamental workout…but what everyone needs to understand is the marketing behind this. You can’t get huge an ripped from these things perios. The guy on the comercial def hits the gym, eats right, and what have you… I am in the gym 5-6 days a week on a weight training and diet routine which keeps me in great shape… the perfect push up will be a backup for days I can’t make it in or for when I am watching TV at night, or on Vacation. Just a little fore-warning… there is no such thing as a Miracle Product…if you want it you gotta get it.
