The service works reasonably well but I have a difficult time seeing it compete with Skype which is still free, now supports desktop share, has no advertising and works with Windows, OS X and Linux.

The advertising is in your face and the face of the person you call unless to pay to turn it off.

Recording the conversation … both audio and video is easy to do when using Skype given you have a free or inexpensive third party application.

Its nice to see competition but how do you compete with FREE and the expectation of free messaging.

i have had oovoo for a couple months, and now it seems to not want to work. Its says that the connection has failed, and then when i try and go to the website it says server can not be found. can anyone help

If Oovoo doesn’t supply linux versions, migrate over to http://www.mebeam.com that runs in any browser on ANY operating system (supporting flash)

pfff ! Try to think about another way to see your computer and the dependancy you feed between your OS and you with this kind of post. It’s really healthy to ask developpers to include very early portability in their roadmap. Better for everyone, and technologies do exist for that.
Why “Cannot be FREE” ? Successful examples of business models based on open and free softwares are numerous, so it’s not yet to demonstrate.

Hey Peac4u I am actually a representative of ooVoo and can try and answer some of the questions you asked. I am not one of the techie guys but I think the idea of showing all users on line is a feature distinct to the peer-to-peer technology utilized by Skype wereas ooVoo is a server based application. This means that you are not sharing any computer resources to support other users of the system. As I am sure you have noticed ooVoo is very resource light and hence leading to the ability to have up to 6 people video-chatting at once.
As to the question of Linux I do know that ooVoo is working on a Linux version that will be coming out some time in the near future.

It looks great on the first look and specs sound impressive.
I just installed it so I don’t have many comments about it.

One think only is that I didn’t find a way to see users which are online at the moment (except from those on contact list). Skype has that feature and its quite helpful to search for online people and chat.

If anyone knows anything about it, please leave a comment.

I installed it an used it today the first time and the sound and video is wonderful.
Sadly no OOVOO for Linux, why is always Linux behind?
When will be there a version for Linux and will it have also video for Linux?
