0day Exploit For Safari For Windows Spotted
by Nicholas Deleon on June 12, 2007

Apple released its Safari Web browser for Windows (and Mac!) yesterday. There’s already a so-called 0day exploit for it, one that causes the browser to instantly crash when visiting a specific Web site. This Web site, to be exact.

It’s mainly a proof of concept, so the exploit won’t really damage your installation, but the proof is in the pudding, as they say. Now Apple knows that nerds are working 24/7 to poke holes in its precious Web browser.

/me Waits for “Apple sucks!” responses.

  • apple shouldn’t have done it! it opens safari for mac to malware and whatever else infects windoze

  • when i browse with safari i feel i am working on MAC OS.. i didnt get any problems with it, but it has very few options n moreover its somewhat better than IE7.

  • Exploiting a bug that causes the browser to crash isn’t nearly as difficult as developing an exploit that causes the browser to *not* crash, but do something unintended, like pass malcode out of Safari’s memory space to the operating system. Until this happens, my take is: big deal, someone wrote a DoS for Safari. Everybody panic.

  • Apple sucks!

    Happy now?

  • Visited (www.larholm.com/vuln/safaripoc.html) but Safari didn’t crash. Just read reports that Safari 3.1 will be very fast. Also interesting i think.
