Comcast has treated me pretty decently to be honest. I can’t complain that much about its service and the programming lineup on TV has been enjoyable. I was hoping Comcast would add some more channels to its HD lineup and apparently my wish is coming true. The company is promising up to a total of 400 HD channels by the end of this year, with more to come. By 2008, Comcast says it will offer over 800 channels of HD programming, which is absolutely nuts and awesome.
Looks like companies such as DirecTV, CableVision, and Time-Warner will have to come up with something to one up Comcast. I mean if you own a HDTV, you know damn well that non-HD programming looks like crap. I fully welcome this decision by Comcast and would even pay a premium to ensure I could access all 800 channels of HD. Nice work, Comast. You’ve done well.
Comcast promises 400 HD Channels this year and 800 in 2008 [BGR]

I read that Comcast actually calls each OnDemand program in HD a “channel”. So those 400 HD channels are not what you think. I have Comcast with HD and they have a bunch of 3 minute videos OnDemand in HD, so I suppose Comcast calls each one of those an HD “channel”!!
In case that you are still being interested, when we call “channel”, we are not talking about the On Demand category called “HD On Demand”. There are some channels that have a specific channel available in HD signal. For example, HBO, which goes from 301 thru 311, actually has channel 300, which is “HBO HD” but that one is only available once that you ask for the HD svc (which is $6 monthly if you dont have an HD bundle -ints included there). We also have TNT, ESPN, ABC, WB, etc etc etc available on HD, once more, this is if u activate HD service calling the toll free number or going to one of our offices. So, HD On Demand is not the “channel” is the category, and what we call “HD channels” are those additional channels that become available with HD service activated – and HD digital box as well. Since you have already comcast HD, you can go ahead and look for those HD channels on your channel guide. I hope this is useful for you :)
Hey there, I work for Comcast and I can tell you that by June of this year, we will have up to 1,000 more HD programming available thru OnDemand, and this is only with “basic” channels… If you get premium such as HBO, Starz, Showtime, TMC, Max, etc, etc… you will get those categories available as well. What I can recommend you to get, in case that u dont have it, is the new HD bundle, the HD boxes are free, i mean, included in the monthly rate, you will have also premium channels and the first DVR will be free as well :) In case that you get any additional boxes (regular boxes) we always have a promotion for 6 months where you will be paying 4.95 ea instead of 8.95, which is the regular rate. I just wanted to share this information :) Have a comcastic day! :)
