SlingBox just launched the SlingLink TURBO 1 ($99.99) and SlingLink TURBO 4 ($149.99) for home users. These powerline routers allow you to connect to your SlingBox over your home’s powerlines and not wirelessly or through a wireless or wired bridge. You can get similar gear for about the same price and, in my experience, powerline hasn’t matched a good old fashioned wireless or wired connection. However, if you love your SlingGear and want to spend some SlingCash, you’ve got a new object of affection.

As the names suggest, the TURBO 1 has one port while the TURBO 4 has four ports.

  • In my experience, the 85mbps power based networking is better performance than 802.11g, if less convenient.

Anyway, the Turbo 4-port came out a long time ago, and they announced the 1-port a few weeks back.

If they just sent out the press release now, well, I dunno. Maybe they wanted to give it a week or two on the market before formally announcing it.

  • hrm. strange. yeah, i just noticed. our sling contact made it sounds like this was the HOT SCOOPZ

  • As we said in the press release, the 4-port has been shipping for a little while. The 1-port is just now hitting retail, hence the release. Sorry for any confusion! -Dave (Sling Media)
