Another hit at safari....

http://weblogs.java.net/blog/asj2006/archive/2007/06/my_ode_to_opera.html

Personally, I love the idea of a fast, nimble application for the masses, a no-nonsense, beautifully optimized and crafted piece of software whose function defines its form. If Apple's iPhone Safari is a tawdry, dressed-up dandy who prances about in voluminous costumes, then Opera Mini is a quiet, earnest, and honest young man who dresses plain, but works hard and fast and gets the job done.

Opera browser is lacking on the desktop... Ummm. I have been using it for years now and I can't find a more full fledged desktop browser. In a file size smaller than Firefox I get so much functionality that I have to use the better part of a dozen extensions on firefox. and that slows down firefox, which is already slower than Opera.

Opera is the most secure, fastest, most compliant, most configurable, and stable browser made.

Maybe you should try what apple (a company I have been a big fan of since the Apple II days) should do. Actually try using it for a while. Well at least you aren't lying so rediculously that everyone knows you are, like apple has been lately.

Kent finds it comical that Opera mocks Apple, but not that Apple lies about having the first full web browser for mobile phones?

You are bang on. Funny how Crunchgear thinks its all right to blatantly lie (and that too more than once) but cant take a mock ad in the right spirit. Surely lying about your products features is more deceitful. If you are fair they you should also swear that you wont be using any product from apple in future. Also you are forgetting that Steve Jobs has bashed Microsoft unnecessarily and unfairly countless number of times? Going by the same logic you should also boycott products from Mozilla (i am referring to mozilla's decieving statements about Minimo). But, I know you wont do that as you are just another biased blogger.

Yes you are partially correct. It's probably a bit silly to compare a software with a hardware. But then if they had said "hi I am safari for iPhone" it would have been kind of weird. But, you failed to mention that this was Opera's response to Mr Jobs' statement that - “it (iPhone) is the full Internet in your pocket for the first time.”

Anyway here is a response (unofficial) from Opera Dev - Haavard.

Kent finds it comical that Opera mocks Apple, but not that Apple lies about having the first full web browser for mobile phones?

Does Kent also find it comical that Opera for both Nintendo DS and Wii have done this kind of zooming forever, and that Nokia did it a long time ago with their new mobile browser as well?

It's good to see that the Apple fanboys get their facts right.

And the comparison between Opera Mini 4 and iPhone is a good one, precisely because Apple bragged about their browser, but Opera lets you do the full web on ANY phone. No need to get an iPhone for that.

I find it even more comical that Opera mocks Apple while Opera Mini 4 features a rip off of iPhone's browser navigation. Tap and zoom...hmm, where have I seen that before?

I agree.. it's quite frustrating when people trash products with little knowledge just to make a juicy story. But then again, he's a marketeer and you just promoted his product for free ;)
