Based on current iPhone hardware pricing, and service costs, the estimated cost for owning an iPhone over two years is hovering at about $2,200. This is the lowest price as it assumes that you have selected the 4GB version and the cheapest service.
This price is bound to change considering the estimate was made using current Blackberry and smartphone plans. It also does not include the price of your 2nd gen iPhone 5 months from now.
Apple’s iPhone: Adding Up the Costs [Business2]

I think you should not count it that way….as it is bound to be rather incorrect and might frighten off “wannabe” customers =)

Even if it’s half that amount – still wickedly overpriced… I guess we will know in a month how sales are going.
I found out a few years back that quarters have a very small form factor, fit in just about any pocket and interface quite nicely with a device called a “pay-phone”.

Actually, for the 8GB model with the cheapest service (using the announced plan) and including $5 in extra fees per month (the regulatory stuff they always add in), it comes out to just $2,159 (not including sales tax though).
The privilege of owning the iPhone will realistically cost quite a bit more than 2200 for that majority of those who actually want to use the non phone features. If Blackberry rates are indicative, then I’m thinking this will cost people upwards of 3240 for two years (110 / month + 600). The original estimate is low.
whatever, who gives a shit. iPhone is gonna be famous!
