At what point are video gamers, of which I am only nominally these days, going to tell their oh-so-concerned elected officials to stop fiddling with their hobby? Here in New York, our esteemed state legislature had a bill on tap that would make selling a violent video game to minors a Class E felony. (I just bought the Wii edition of Resident Evil 4 on Sunday and was rather bemused to find out that the GameStop employee requested to see my ID; I actually laughed when the clerk told me that he banned two kids from entering the store because they were blatantly getting people off the street to buy game for them.) We have a law here that says, you commit three felonies and you can look forward to spend the rest of your natural life behind bars. So, Mr. GameStop employee just trying to make a buck, you better damn well ask for ID for every single time. Or else.

The bill is expected to be signed into law when our do-nothing legislature gets back to work next month.

Is there not, like, a real war going on? Shouldn’t we, I don’t know, be focusing our energies elsewhere?
