We walked inside and spotted multiple no-name dirt bikes, quads and mopeds. Our initial inspection revealed expensive toys that we couldn’t afford for just cheap thrills. Then we spotted a $500 dirt bike with a $50 mail-in rebate. It was made by some company called Baja, it was 70cc, and was pretty small. I’m almost positive this bike was designed for 14-year-olds, but hey, we’re only 21. Close enough.
After watching some idiot employee (thanks Steve!) ride around out back on it for a minute, we agreed it’d be in our best interest to purchase two bikes and go home. We plunked down $500 for each bike, plus a $30 setup fee and 7-percent sales tax. The total came in around $1,300.
We went home, took the bikes out of the car, and tuned them up. Changed the oil, adjusted the throttle — standard stuff. Now at this point, I should probably mention I’ve never ridden a dirt bike before. Not once. After multiple attempts to start my bike, I got it going and headed out for a quick lap before it got dark out. I followed Steve into his neighbor’s backyard and and immediately plunged down a 4-foot drop, smashing the plastic tire guard and front end off.
What a crappy bike! I was hurting, in quite a lot of pain, and his neighbor was pissed. We took off and hid from the cops for awhile before calling it a night. Clearly these bikes were meant for out in the countryside. So the next day, we drove out to Steve’s father’s house, which is in the middle of nowhere in New Jersey and has about a football field or so of land in his backyard to ride on. There are also multiple, wooded dirt-bike trails all around the area, making it the perfect testing ground for the Baja 70cc.
After warming up and practicing for a bit, we were flying around in the backyard having the time of our lives. We built a small ramp and started launching ourselves off a wooden plank at 40mph and I must say, it was extremely fun. The bikes have four gears and no clutch, so shifting is simple and easy.
Of course, riding around in a backyard gets old after an hour or two. We needed to put these things to the test. Despite barely fitting on these bikes, we headed out into the woods and started flying around trails. Let me be honest with you: I didn’t think a $500 dirt bike that was half my size would handle me flying down trails in third gear. I expected these to snap in half hours after I started riding it. But these bikes didn’t break.
I flew into trees, I flew into bushes and I even flew into some poison ivy on one occasion. The crashes hurt like hell and my legs are black and blue with cuts. However, because the bike is so small, it’s easy to get it off you if it falls on you. No need to worry about being paralyzed with third-degree burns when you wipe out in the woods on a trail. For a $500 dirt bike, the Baja 70cc is an extremely sturdy piece of machinery. Sure some of the plastic fell off when I smashed it up and I had to remove the rear brake, but does the bike still run perfectly? Absolutely, and it’s a total blast.
If you have a car with a decent trunk, you can get one of these and transport it with ease. I suggest finding a Pep Boys near you and asking them if you or someone who works there can take a spin on it so you can check it out. Just make sure you have woods or trails near you that you can ride on safely. Cops absolutely hate these things and you will not be riding around on a street for long before the five-oh roll up ready to slap you with some fines.
So those of you with $500 and weekends of nothing ahead of you, I highly recommend picking up a Baja 70cc dirt bike from Pep Boys. Just make sure you grab gloves and a helmet for safety purposes. You do not want to get blisters on your hands from riding all day or a cracked skull. Trust me, the ticks are bad enough.
Note: I made a bunch of videos on the bike and showing off the bike. They’re all corrupted though so I have to go shoot all the fun moves all over again. I promise I’ll upload them to YouTube the minute we finish them!

Great little write up…. it’s probably worth mentioning that most of these “chinese” pit bikes are based around Honda CRF/XF 50s and most of the parts are swappable. This means when something breaks, the Honda parts are usually stronger and readily available. You should also look into the “big kid” upgrades like big bars, tall seat, and stiffened up suspension. Somewhere like fast50s.com can help you out with that!
thissssssssssssssssssssssssssss issssssssssssssssssssssssssssssss thhhhhhhhheeeeeeeeeeeee besssssssssssst dddddddiiiiiiiirrrttttttttttttttttttt biiiiiiiiiiiiikkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeeeeeee evvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrrrr i ran from cops and got away so many times nighaaaaa
Dirt bike riding is fun, always wondered if these Chinese bikes were any good. My sons and I ride Yamaha YZ125’s, much larger, moto-x bikes.
I think we probably spent more money on safety gear than you did on your bike, but with helmet, boots, gloves, googles, nomex reinforced pants and chest protectors we never had so much as a scratch either.

joey your not funny and it is a nice bike morron
yea fuck u joey that bike will burn ur mamas station wagon
its a pretty deiseil bike joey so shut up
Stay away from Baja Motorsports products. They are all made badly in China and fall apart fast. Big waste of money!!!
I unfortunately bought two bikes from Baja Motorsports. Rust immediately started eating away the tail pipe, the chain, and other parts days after I got them home from the store. The warranty service people just said, “Not covered!” Not a single I’m sorry you are having this trouble. They even said that this was normal and that the bike did not have a problem.
i had 2 baja my self . and they are both way faster than a honda .i had no problems with them. anything will have rust on them if u leve it in the rain .
125cc i have one it better then my uncle 200cc Honda !!!
If you are ever considering getting a Baja Motorsports product do it!!!! They are very dependable dirt bikes. Don’t listen to smudge, he didn’t take care of his dirt bike, he kept in in the rain. I have a 70cc dirt bike and I take care of it so it runs really good.
i agree i have a baja 70cc it runs soo well!!!!
Plus smudge is an idiot.
My 70cc Baja dirt bike runs like a bat out of hell. It’s the best dirt bike I’ve ever had until i get a 125cc by Baja Motorsports.
Baja Motorsports makes the COOLEST looking dirt bikes.
Can u really buy honda parts for these bikes, I heard the parts were not interchangeable. I really want to buy one but only have 300 bucks parents said they would match my money, but need to buy a bike that will last i am 13 and weigh 110 pounds so would the 70cc carry me for a while?
I to need a good sturdy bike and I’m about your age. But I would suggest getting a 100cc or a 125cc =]
hell yeah
Nate the Baja 70cc dirt bike would carry you ,and it is a good bike. Mine carries my dad that is 170 pounds. But once it breaks down its history. Theres no motorcycle shops in America that will fix these chines bikes. If u want a bike that will break down after a few hundred hours buy one, but if u want a bike that will last a few years get a Honda,a Kawasaki,a Yamaha,or a Suzuki.
i have a shop in my naborhood that fixs them.
VERY DANGEROUS! CHEAP PARTS!
They state “Each component is individually selected for the highest quality and seamless integration into the final product.” In less than 10 hours of use on a go kart, the carburetor was messed up, a belt discentigrated, a wheel and axel came off completely, and the front wheel ball joint completely severed from the steering axel causing extremely dangerous driving conditions all while my kids were driving it. Even after being investigated by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, there is absolutely no concern for safety from Baja Motorsports and they definitely do not care that we spent $1000.00 for a product that is unsafe and unusable.

I bought a Dirt Runner 50 (49cc) from Pep boys last year ($299 on the occasion of their after Thanksgiving sale) for my 10 year old son. We tore around on vacation in Maine on gravel, dirt, and forest logging roads, as well as aggressive ATV trails. The bike is perfect for him, runs strong and quiet. I was on a ‘72 CB350 Scrambler with knobby tires and was scared to death trying to keep up with him. On the country roads getting to various trails we were going 50 mph. It’s well designed, and suitable for mild to moderate off-roading. It’s in storage in a barn in Maine now. We’re looking forward to more fun with it next Summer. You get what you pay for, but there is a lot of bike there for the money. Dont flog the thing too hard and it should serve you well.

I have a friend that has one of these he is selling. He bought it for his daughter brand new and his son’s 6′4″ friend got on it and took it off a jump. He fell and bent the gearshift rod. I’m sure it’s and easy fix. It’s only been ridden 10 minutes. He wants $300 as is. Post up here if you want it. If you want to contact me directly do so through my blog and I’ll get back to you. Southern California region.
where do you liove i have 2 bikes a dirt runner 90 cc and a 6.5 hors fat boy one looks like a lil harly :D i love them yea they break down pretty often but if you get to know the dealers its great i get free parts all the time and discounts out my ass best bikes in the world if you ask me cause you can have so much fun for so lil money
My son bent the gearshift rod on his Honda CRF70. His friend has a KC Motorsports 70cc bike that kept up with the Suziki 125cc I was riding. I rode it and thought it had plenty of power for it’s size. People sway to buy Honda, Yamaha, KTM cuz they are reputable, but for the price, these bikes from Baja and KC do the same thing; actually, after looking at it, that little KC seemed to have some upgrade parts, don’t know if it came that way, but all in all, I liked it, esp. for the price.
will this be a good dirtbike for my 10 year old son.
i got my dirt bike and baja rocks
baja fucking sucks
so does ur mom smudge

I dont understand why poeple like “poop”, “hobo” and others have stupid shit like that to say. if ur not going to say anything SMART, go die. Im honestly ashamed to be american sometimes. Seriously, why do you people act like this? did ur mother really drop that much acid while fucking every guy on the block that you had to end up like you are now? Fuck all the stupid people on here,<—(hobo, poop, smudge, joey, and asshole….)
And thank you for not being assholes.<——(that only applys to a few select people on here.)
BTW – Can some of you do me a favor and learn how to type correctly? I don’t know whos comment it was, but it made no sence what so ever.
Hmm, your just commenting people on their spelling and look at you’re little mistake— “but it made no sence what so ever.”
Its sense, not sence. Go back to school.

Ya I Know You Guys are talking about baja bikes but tell me if you know anything about the 70cc dx (kc) dirt bike as well sold from baja motorsports
If you Know anything tell me all you know
Thanks bob
The Baja Dx 70 is a great bike for anyone under 16 it is around $600 and is for racing or in the backyard. It can go up to 60 MPH!!!!!!!!
This bike is awesome!!! Can Go 60 MPH!!!! $600. Got one for x-mas!!!! Never breaks down and has a cool design and look.
My boys bought the KC 70cc and 110cc dirtbikes from pepboys when they were on clearance for like less than $400 each. These bikes are set with decent suspension, front and rear disc brakes(very important!), and even with my 200 lb ass on them they fly! The 70cc is starting to slip to neutral gear from first when I really get on it, and the 110 broke some spokes when my boy ran through the log pile. been looking online and parts are becoming more and more available. got spokes the other day and fixed the 110. I would reccomend the kc bikes they are a blast and for the money you cant beat it. Any bike will break if you abuse it enough, just make sure you can get parts.
O and make sure you tell me the wieght capacity im wondering me being 13 140 lbs is that a factor please reply
Can hold up to 170 lbs and is very fast!!!!!!!!!
how much is the 70 and the 90………$$$$$$$
how much for the 70 and 90………………………………….$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$
They are 799$ for the 70cc, and 1000$ for the 90cc (Baja in canada)
I have a baja dirt runner 125. that shit can rut in hell!!!!!!!!!!!!!
