Boy People can sure talk smack! Lets all wake up and smell the Roses....You get what you pay for...If you think you are going to take a off brand-probable a poor quality control factory bike,it's why their cheaper,,, and pound the shit out of it,like you would a 125YZ-Racing bike---thats a Yamaha for you newbe's....Your going to have problems, and when it comes to repairs, well getting parts for your off brand stuff can be a job---NOT IMPOSSIBLE,with time and money...Remember people the part is a dollar, the guy putting it in,is $50-$100 an hour...So hope he works fast...I recommend getting a used brand name bike personally...The reason is the better your kid gets. The more he's going to pound it.That is the nature of the sport...Aaand they all break...cheap or brand name...Why because even though we all know better...Doing 40-50mph off a 8 foot ridge is standard, once you learn to handle whats between your legs...;)The difference is when you break your name brand bike...Your biggest fear will be how much, not if they can fix it....Back to Baja's,this is the other deal-I have bought used and new and it all depends if the guy at the factory was smoking a joint on his lunch break!!! No matter what you buy...Look it over and tighten everything, nice and snug or to spec's..After awhile you will find that lose bolt or nut that would of ruined your new toy..Take 30 min once a month,or more, depending on your usage, check your toy over,it's not rocket science...It will save you down time ,which can be more important then the money,if your plans for a great weekend get ruined...OOO and if you find a lose nuts and bolts don't be afraid to get the self locking kind with the plastic insert, that don't loosen,it will cure the problem...DO NOT USE LOCKTIGHT if you are not a PRO,,,,consult a pro on the right kind there are three different levels...This is crazy glue for nuts and bolts and it works great, till you need to disassemble for maintainance...Then you are going to need a torch to get it dam hot to take it apart---I use the term lightly A (professional) at a shop taking it apart starts cranking thing's unknowingly,he's going to snap off a head bolt or a crank case bolt and give you some bull shit excuse as to why your bike is unrepairable or why it cost you 3 times as much because he had to drill and tap-or helicoil(repace stripped threads) at your cost...REMEMBER $50-$100 an hour...The bottom line is common sense...You can break anything if you abuse it enough...So buy a Baja....Just remeber you get what you pay for...The problem is we all get little devils horns when we get on dirt bikes,,,so common sense isn't part of the Sport...Good Luck,,,,One more bit of info I bought a 80 yamaha from a guy down the road from me he said the carberator needs to be cleaned...Well I took it home cleaned the carb,,,it started and ran very poorly,it had serious piston slap-that ment the engine needed to be freshened-new piston and rings-gaskets...It adds up fast...I payed him $400.cash with the agreement it ran good...I loaded it up and drove it back to him and said sorry it needs work it runs now but I am not interested in rebuilding the motor...He wasn't happy but tough shit.I stipulated it had to run good or it would be returned...The next week his son was riding it again,,,till it died I am sure...So if your not sure get a friend or even ask a guy at a second hand shop-not a name brand they are tainted towards there own product....The guy at the second hand shop can tell you what how when and where 90% of the stuff breaks and their usually great guy's.....and That's A Fact...again Good Luck

I jus sold a baja 125, ran great...but man o man..heavy, a lil bit weak compared honda atc 125 4 stroke, plastics were pretty cheap, butit always started, oh ya, the throttle cables and twist grips suck as well,
I definitly suggest this bike for the beginner, or sunday family rider..I have been riding bikes 20 years of my life

jut bought our boys 1, POS to begin with, took for ever to get it to start, 2 days to get the carb set. finally took the baffle out of the muffler and it instantly started idling better, running cooler, faster and now starts MUCH easier. plus now it sounds like my XR 400. it runs great, faster than the boys need. hauls my big 180 pound arse about 45mph. still no match for my CR500 with big bore kit.

I am buying a baja 125, and a Klt 200 three wheeler for 350 dollars, good deal...
are parts interchangable...ie...heads, pistons, crankshaft...you know the power train...
I am worried of the cheap alluminum heads, and having to rebuild yearly...anyone got one that burns oil yet let me know..how long before it started and how hard you rode it.
thanks in advance
