Taser is one of our least favorite companies — they make weapons and then deny their lethality — but at least they keep some of our boys in blue safe and offer another way of stopping folks without putting a bullet in their leg.
They’re announcing a new product, XREP, which is an electronic shotgun shell what apparently works just like a mini Taser. No real info yet, but they describe it thus:
On July 9, 2007, TASER International will introduce the world’s first wireless TASER® device, the new eXtended Range Electronic Projectile, or XREP. Launched from a standard 12-gauge shotgun, the XREP delivers TASER Neuro-Muscular Incapacitation (NMI) in a self-contained projectile system weighing only half an ounce.

Have you personally tested a Taser? Have you personally had the opportunity to be tased, voluntarily (not as a result of stupid behavior)?
I’ve personally read the statistics. I’ve personally been trained in the proper use of a tase. I’ver personally, with authority, tased an undisclosed number of people. I even get those Google news updates weekly on all new items including “taser” and “Taser International”.
What’s the point? Your conclusion about their lethality is based upon your collection of defense attorney bias and misinformation. Did you call Taser International for a comment on this article? Did you call even your local law enforcement agency?
Please, leave your enemy loving bias at the door when you attempt to write.
Additionally, no cop shoot the leg, intentionally. Pulling the trigger on a firearm is the decision to kill, and kill only. Maiming is not a part of our policies.
