It's just a pad with electrical contacts. The "adapter" just has contact points which stick out and touch the pad. You actually have to plug the adapter into the charging port. Making the device bigger and bulkier. Way not worth the wireless charging. When this product was announced they made it sound like it was truly "next gen". But it really isn't.
