Keys are so 20th century. Who has the time to reach into their pocket, choose the correct key, put it in the keyhole, turn the key and push the door open? I sure as hell don’t. That’s why, if I owned a house, I’d look at Kwikset’s SmartScan biometric scanning door opening solution. (Everything’s a solution these days.) With the mere swipe of your finger, the lock unlocks, allowing entry to your domicile. You can program SmartScan to work with fingers other than your own (your lazy kids’ or your ungrateful wife’s, for instance) or at specified times.

Such mind-bending technology will set you back $200. Rosie the Robot not included.

  • “At specified times”… nice way to lock out your kids when they come home drunk and stoned two hours past curfew! Or to make sure the maid doesn’t come back at night with her “associates” to ‘clean’ your house (but not the way you paid for) :-)

  • Not that you have to worry about accidentally leaving a photocopy of your fingerpring lying around…but…ya…these can be bypassed pretty easilly; i suppose just as easily as someone swiping your keys. On the other hand, you only have one set of fingerprints. =/

I’ve had a fingerprint lock on my bedroom door for a couple years now…no one get in without my say so, but ever since Mythbusters did a special on how easy it is to bypass…i’ve been looking for something new. Perhaps retinal scanner?

  • I purchased one of the locks a few months ago from GoKeyless.com. I received the lock with in 2-3 days. For the price you can’t beat this. Lets face it, a lock is just a deterrent. If someone wants in your house bad enough as opposed to going thru the trouble of duplicating your finger the would just throw a rock thru your window! I a completely confident in the reliablitity of this lock and know it provides the at least the same level of security as a regular deadbolt without the hassle of messing with keys.
