LG VX8550: The Chocolate Strikes Again, Does Better This Time

chocolate222.jpg

Verizon Wireless have no reason for iPhone envy now that the new version of the LG Chocolate is here, the LG VX8550. LG listened to our numerous complaints regarding the original Chocolate’s lame touch-sensitive buttons and has replaced the navigation “buttons” with a click wheel-like interface. So no more swearing up and down to get the phone to cooperate. Other improvements include a standard 2.5mm audio jack, smart MP3 playback software (think T9 but for searching your library of MP3s) and it’s lighter in weight than its predecessor. Unfortunately, LG still insists on having a 1.3-megapixel camera in there. Don’t they know that 2-megapixel cameras are the new black?

To be honest, all LG had to do was get rid of that touch nonsense and the Chocolate would’ve been a fine, if not basic, cellphone. Now that it’s done that, I see no reason to continue to hate on it. ‘Grats, LG.

Yeah, the new Chocolate is a pretty good phone. We’ve been playing around with it and dig it for the most part, although at this point, why even bother with the two lower touch sensitive keys? I guess it’s nice to have a dedicated speaker phone button, but i’d try to think of something more necessary, like a “home screen” button or something similar.

The LEDs around the wheel are pretty gratuitous, but fun never the less.

Could someone explain the 2.5mm audio jack to me? That’s an honest question, not just a veiled complaint - I don’t know what the advantages of 2.5mm are. Is it just size? Is there capability for greater functionality? I’ve never known anyone to use / prefer headphones with a 2.5mm jack, and headsets are almost all bluetooth now. Why is it so unusual to see phones with a 3.5mm jack?

Contininue to HATE on it, bacause all though there is a new version many of us are still stuck with the original, and HATE it. The touch screen is awful, it does what it wants, when it wants, and Verizon will do absolutley nothing about it, in fact whenever I bring it in the salespeople tell me how many complaints they get. Verizon lacks intgrity because they are not standing behind the substandard product they spent millions of dollars marketing to the public. I have 14 months left on my contract, or until I can get another phone, and I REFUSE to pay the inflated fake retail prices for a replacement phone. Good Bye Verizon, and way to stand behind your product!
