Very few video games hold my interest except for Tetris, Moto GP 3 and whatever FIFA game I have for my PS2. It’s no secret that I loathe the PS3 and I make it known if anyone asks my opinion on it or even if they don’t ask. It’s a terrible console, but it may have piqued my interest if for only 2 seconds. I’ve been a hardcore Gran Turismo fan since Day 1. I remember getting GT3 and playing it for days straight until I achieved all the licenses. Anyways, the trailer for GT5 emerged for the PS3 at E3 and let me tell you how excited I am about it. It even makes me want to purchase the over-sized hunk of junk. What say you?

I wouldn’t call it a “hunk of junk”, just a console that doesn’t have alot of content yet. It came out a year too soon. a console with a 33% hardware failure (xbox360) should be called a “hunk of junk”.

oh yeah… that game would probably be the only way I would ever be able to ‘drive’ the Audi R8… I would sell my soul for one of those cars.
I too am a sucker for Gran Turismo. There’s no denying the Gran Turismo franchise is a system seller. I bought a PlayStation for GT1, a PS2 for GT3, and I’ll probably buy a PS3 for GT5. Let’s hope it lives up to my high expectations. My biggest “want” for the new version is a realistic in-car view…hands on the steering wheel rather than camera on the bumper.
Also, I have to agree with hannibalchew. The PS3 is simply a piece of incredible hardware with no software to showcase its abilities (ok, no software at all really). Two points: (1) I would argue that it always takes at least a year for a new console to get great titles (see: Gears of War for Xbox 360). I am not an early adopter for specifically this reason. Work out the inevitable bugs, get the choice content, drop the price and then we’ll talk. (2) As long as game makers keep designing games for multiple platforms, they’ll essentially be designing games for the least-technical platform and porting them to PS3. Thus the games will probably look the same (and possibly worse) on the PS3 because they don’t take advantage of PS3’s, how shall I put this, “unique” architecture. PS3 needs a few exclusives (like GT5 and MGS4) designed from the ground up specifically for the PS3 platform. Once more games like that start to come out, people (including me) will finally zip it about how crappy the PS3 is. Well, no, they won’t…but here’s to dreaming!
The author of this article is a TOOL, and you will be made to look like a tool when the PS3 is dominating the scene in a year or two.
Streaming movies,music,pictures to my PSP anywhere in the world from my PS3, which is streaming from a file server which is transcoding on the fly to the PS3 to allow me to play just about any file format or codec. Tell me another gaming system that can do that. I wouldn’t be able to set that sort of system up with anything else with such ease.

The PS3 just needs content that’s built for it like zuluniner said and time for the online portion to get rolling, but until then I’ll bitch and moan all I want. It also needs to shed some weight and have a lower price point. You make very good points, but a ‘year or two’ is a long ways away.
The PS3 is a very capable piece of hardware, although whether it will be exceptional as a games machine remains to be seen.
However whilst it may be large, at least the power supply is built in and it is quiet enough to use as a movie player (it can handily replace the DVD player (PS, check out the reviews of the awful DVD quality of the 360 whilst you are at it) and obviate the need for a stand-alone high definition movie player). It’s also extremely reliable compared with its primary competition, and apparently extremely reliable for a CE product in general.
The price bites. It’s a good price if you want all of the features it has though. But as a console on its own it’s a bit too much to swallow. When must have exclusives appear though, and the price drops a little, sales will take off a lot.
After owning a PS3 for just over a week, I am convinced it will eventually be a success. It’s a brilliant piece of kit, which has a huge amount of functionality (hence the higher price point) and is very solidly contructed (hence the weight). And who cares about the weight anyway? Surely that’s better than having a huge external power brick and a console that has a 30% failure rate?

Is it just me or is the video all pre rendered visuals. I mean i’m sure it will be a great game and i’ll prob get a ps3 for this game alone, but how about some real ingame demos.

I think the XBox360 is so cheaply made! I’ve taken mine apart a couple of times to flash it, and every time i can feel it break a little more.
The PS3 I admit is a bit big haha, in fact I’m sure most of it is just for looks so it LOOKS more intimidating…but god damn the interface is so much sleaker than the XBox360 one!
AND the best thing of all??? I DONT HAVE TO PAY TO PLAY THE £40 GAMES ONLINE!!! :D Stupid Microsoft just make you pay for EVERYTHING. PAH! I keep my XBox360 for offline gaming ever since they tried to make me pay to play online. I just cannot justify spending £35 a year or whatever when I can only play on the console once every few weeks.

It’s a hunk of junk why? Surely you are not just talking about size? If that’s all you are basing it on then your opinion cannot be taken seriously, but I suspect that due to your love of FIFA rather than much better alternatives that may already be the case ….
