BusinessWeek has a fairly long article about the magic of Nokia. The lede is actually pretty cool:
Pop singer Alicia Keys and Ramkishen Pyarelal, proprieter of a Mumbai tea stall, may not have a lot in common. But they both carry Nokia mobile phones.
That basically sums up Nokia in a few words. Nokia has always known its market. It sells the low-end and the high-end and essentially keeps everyone happy by building smartphones, clamshells, and candybars that are indestructible and easy to use. They definitely have a long row to hoe when it comes to UI in the next few years, but I think they can pull it off. After all, the N95 is better than the iPhone in many ways.

That is actually a good summary of Nokia – I’ll have to use that myself =0)
Great for camera poor for phone that someone talks a lot bad battery life. Phone first then get the rest correct. Then tell us how great Nokia is.
