I purchased one of these units 6 months ago for my daughter aged 9. It broke one day when she opened it after very little use. I sent it back, hopefully for repair under guarantee. The item was classed as "deliberate damage" therefore not repairable under gurantee. When I tried to pay for the repair myself I was told that none of the internal components in this player were replaceable and no components are available to purchase either. You cannot even get the battery replaced when it fails.
This player is therefore not repairable.
I certainly will not be purchasing another DCP850, or any other Philips item in future.

I could have got a different make of product for half of this price

There are 2 versions of this. The DCP750 has a 7" screen and the DCP850 has an 8.5" screen. They are identical feature-wise, but the 750 is quite a bit cheaper and has better battery life because it is driving a smaller screen.

I recently picked up the 750 at Target. Normally it goes for $130, I think. During a recent sale they were giving a $20 gift card with it, bringing it down to $110.

Even at that price I was hesitant at first to buy it. But it has been a fantastic purchase. I put up a review at Amazon of it that goes into detail, but I found it to be sturdy, have good audio and video, AV out works great, comes with car power adapter also. This thing is perfect for moving around the house with me as I do chores or work out.

I would say go with the DCP750 model instead of the DCP850. Save money and gain battery life.
