NASPerform Network Storage: Up To 750GB

The one thing I lack in my sleek setup here is a network attached storage device. Other World Computing comes out with one today, the NASPerform, that works with any network (it has to be physically connected to a router, though) and with any make and model of computer. It’s a NAS (but you can also just plug it into a USB 2.0 port to use as a regular external hard drive), so there’s not a whole lot to it: a giant hard drive accessible to any computer on the network.
You can grab a hard drive-less model for $60, or go all the way up to 750GB for $300. Hopefully the NASPerform is as good as OWC’s RAM, which I have installed in my iMac right now!

$60 for a drive-less model! Sweet, that’s just what I could use for all these extra hard drives I have laying around. Anyone else had any luck with these things?

I’ve never used one, but I’d compare it to the LaCie Ethernet Disk Mini. It’s priced similarly ($210 retail for 500GB; less at NewEgg). But the LaCie has extras, gigabit ethernet and a 2nd USB port for host mode. So not only will this give you 500GB of storage, but it’ll NASify your existing USB disks too. Yeah, and that port supposedly works with multiple drives when connected to a hub…
Just don’t be tempted by the RAID version; it’s just an intel rebadge and it has software raid and as a result maxes out at ~3MB/sec for RAID1. Too bad.
