I’m halfsies about whether or not notebooks should be used for daily entertainment purposes. If you’re on a plane or in a hotel somewhere, go right ahead. Be my guest.
But if I come to your house to watch some TV and you have to fire up the old laptop, that’s kinda weird.
So it’s with half-hearted enthusiasm that I present to you the HDX Entertainment Notebook PC from HP.
It weighs 15.5 pounds, has a 20.1″ screen, a dual-core processor, a tv tuner, DVD burner and HD DVD player, and your choice of RAM and hard drive capacities.
Pricing starts at just shy of $3000.

really what is the point of a 15.5 pound laptop?
15.5 pounds is not a laptop. It’s a desktop with an attached screen.
Seriously, I’m pretty sure you can get an entire desktop system (probably w/o a screen) in one of those tiny Shuttle cases, with better specs, for less money and less weight.
Congratulations, HP. You’ve developed a “laptop” that appeals to two niche markets:
1) Geeky weightlifters.
2) People who long for the retro-luggability of the Osborne 1.
Get yourself one of those wheely cases because if you try to carry this beast around or carry it in a backpack you’re gonna giver yourself a hernia!
Portable my butt!
