Love the article. I gotta say I HATE it when people stand right in front of the security gate throwing liquids out of their bags. It wastes a lot of peoples time and is just plain annoying.

Get there early. Suffer the high price and have a pint. It helps.

1. Buy food/bev before you board. Buy on the fly sucks.
2. Passport is your friend.
3. Board last. No one is going to take your seat.
4. Check everything you don't need.
5. United P.S. is the best. ever. Worth every penny. (in which case ignore 1)

Thanks so much for this article, and thanks to the CG readers for posting tips too! Goin' to China in October and I'm not a big traveler so it's a good read for me. On the other hand, I don't have a laptop or a plethora of other electronics I'll be bringing with me so it may not be a big deal. I do want to get a new phone before the trip though so I can browse the web, and keep in touch with friends... I'm hopin' the 8925 is out by then...if not... I'm counting on CG to tell me what to get.

Couple more tips:

1 - check in at home (most airlines have web check in available)
2 - carry 2 forms of id (passport and drivers license)
3 - when you are getting to the security checkpoint and taking your laptop out of your bag, take a second and toss everything in your pockets into your bag. less chance of accidentally setting off the alarms or forgetting your stuff at the checkpoint.
4 - seatguru.com (enough said)

Be patient! Take some extra time to get to the airport. I know everyone says to do that, but how many of us actually do that. When you are at the airport be understanding and friendly to people. Everyone at the airport is pretty much in the same situation that you are in, unless you fly 1st/Business class and get to skip in the security line. If you keep your cool and realize that there is really not much you can do to make things go any quicker, you will get rid of stress and enjoy your flight a little better. Even though you still won't get any free food besides a drink on your 5 1/2 hour flight.

Bring a small travel strip like this one. Sometimes you'll find some idiot who doesn't know how to travel, and so has plugged his cell phone into one power outlet and his laptop into the other. In the pre-9/11 days, those people used to be killed and their bodies hung from the rafters as warning to future traveling douchebags. But since they frown on those kinds of displays now, it's better to just offer to share the power outlet.
