By all accounts, faster is better than slower, and bigger is better than smaller… so long as we’re talking about hard drives. Buffalo’s MiniStation and DriveStation hard drives will now most certainly be faster, about 30-60 percent faster than other such drives. Buffalo sped up the hard drives’ speed by using Turbo USB, a proprietary feature at controller level. (All that means is that the drive will be faster when connected to any PC.)

Both the MiniStation and DriveStation will debut later this month, with the MiniStation available in 80GB, 120GB, 160GB and 250GB capacities and the DriveStation in 320GB, 500GB, 750GB and 1TB capacities. The MiniStation—if you couldn’t tell by its smaller capacities, the MiniStation is meant to be portable—also has shock resistant technology. Like what X-Play did a few years ago, I’d like to see just how much punishment this drive can take.

  • My first experience with Buffalo Technologies has not been very good. Long holds on customer support, confusing dialogues, and failed call-backs/unresponded emails. :-/ At this time, I won’t be buying any more Buffalo products.
