Magellan do a great job with their Triton range of outdoor GPS units. Their good work has paid off recently with the Triton 2000 recently announced as an honoree in Personal Electronics category of the 2008 International CES Best of Innovations Design and Engineering Awards. It should be mentioned that the Tritons are WAAS enabled giving them a 3m accuracy.

There is a review at http://gpstekreviews.com/2007/11/30/magellan-triton-2000-and-1500-portable-handheld-gps-receivers-for-outdoor-enthusiasts-review/

Any chance the 2000 runs on AA cells ? I got the XL from Magellan because it has the nice massive screen waterproof SD and it ran on AA's

GPS will be here for decades to come The built in rechargeable batteries will not be. I am likely to replace my mp3 player but I am not so likely to replace my GPS so I do not want a GPS that has a 2-3 year lifespan max :-(
