Microsoft has come away unscathed from the $1.52 billion lawsuit won by Alcatel-Lucent who claimed MS had infringed on two MP3 digital-music patents. But U.S. District Judge Rudi Brewster ruled that the jury’s award could not be fulfilled because MS had a valid license for one of the two patents. Brewster stated that “supplemental damages, prejudgment and post judgment interest, and a permanent injunction is denied as moot since Lucent is no longer the prevailing party.” Of course, Alcatel-Lucent will appeal the verdict and this case will drag on for a few more months.

  • Good for them. I hate the thought of stupid lawsuits that are billions of dollars. So much time has been wasted by those lawyers… they could be out pickin’ up garbage or doing something useful.
