You heard it here first, folks. We have it from an inside source that the AT&T Tilt (aka 8925 aka Kaiser) hits stores September 3rd for $499 with 2-year plan. No word on 1-year pricing, but this flagship phone should be all over the place in a little less than a month.

  • Does anyone know if this has the SiRF Star III chip-set, or the Qual-com?

    big fan of SiRF

  • Qualcomm GPS. Just go read pdadb.net.

  • Qualcomm GPS. Just go search pdadb.net, modaco.com, or howardforums.com.

  • I love the phone, but $499 is way too much.

$399 would have been the sweet spot. This phone will definitely not “be all over the place” simply due to the price.

This is really too bad. Oh well, I guess I’ll just get a Dash for $150 instead…

  • Some credit for the pic, please? :)

  • Well the 8525 is $449, after the rebates it gets cut down to $299. So $499 isn’t that bad, hopefully there are mail in rebates that will lower the price 100 or 150 bucks.

  • I got bored of chasing Kaiser pic credits BG :)

    Your story, my pic, lol!

Bring on the Tilt! Huzzah! :D

    P

  • Will the official HTC Tilt have a screen that will look like this?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P41hoK-jX3I

I really like this screen rather than the one posted in this blog. What do you guys think?

  • Can anyone confirm TouchFlo UI & Gestures i.e. scrolling ala finger swipe?!!!

  • Too costly for a 2year contract :\ Another $100 will get you the much hyped iPhone. Hope some MIRs will bring down the price.

  • Junior – it should be released with the WM6P build that you see in that video. If not you could just download that build and reflash the phone.

$499 sucks – hopefully that is not correct or there will be rebates.

And this phone is way better than the iPhone – not even close in comparison.

  • If this device is supposed to be released at the beginning of September, what effect will the ban imposed on Qualcomm chips have on this? Any word on how AT&T will get around this ban?

  • @ chili
AT&T cut some sort of deal (just like Verizon) recently.

See the link in WSJ write-up after the jump
    http://prealphageek.blogspot.com/2007/08/broadcom-to-at-show-me-money.html

Also it seems somewhat obvious to me that if they ARE releasing this device in early September then they’ve most likely already gotten around the Qualcomm chip ban.

BTW: I’m not discounting this story in any means when I say this: I’ve called several AT&T stores to confirm release/pricing. I mostly got confused individuals. To some credit a few employees knew about an 8525 follow-on device with tilting screen but had no clue of possible launch dates and pricing.

  • People at the store do not know whats coming out or not for there company. I have gone to ask and they have this blank look on them.. I say if your job is to work in a AT&T store you should be up to date with stuff read the net. Now even the manger know whats up.. I something think they just do not care and are there just for a pay check…

  • Please please please have the front cam! I may have to maim someone at AT&T if not.

  • Why is the front camera so important. It just seems redundant. I would rather they used the money on a useful feature, like 640×480 or a radio or something.

I agree that $500 is WAAY too much though.

I will have to pass on that. I can buy a great feature packed laptop for $550, and it does a lot more.

  • If the AT&T model has both the front and the rear cams, I’m all in. Otherwise, I’ll fork over the $800 for the UNLOCKED GSM 120 model.

  • I need to cameraless version. There seem to be indicators that AT&T will carry it, but has anyone seen an unlocked one?

  • It will not be released on September 3rd, and it will be $449 for a two year contract, and it may even have a $50 mail in rebate card.

  • Hopefully i can use my premier account to get this phone for cheap.
I can get 8525 brand new without rebates for 199 :p

  • OK- I’ve read everything I can get my paws on re: the ATT Tilt.
I just called 6 Chicagoland ATT stores…here’s the tally:

    3 stores: “don’t know a thing about it”…
1 store: “As far as I can tell it will hit our store in Oct.
1 store: “should be seeing it in store by end of month or sept..”
1 store: “supposed to be here in sept…”

So…no final word, but October sounds like a best bet.

  • it aint that different from 8125 only camera megapixel upgade and 6.0…

  • l8125 owner, are you on crack? its not much different then the 8125? dude the 8525 is Night and DAY from your phone..OMG thats like saying a 2007 mercedes s550 is the same as a 1998 S420 SEL, get a clue dude..the 8525 has ateast 8 MAJOR upgrades over your phone including 3g,processor speed, ram storage, mem storage, SIZE, keyboard, etc…the KAISER crushes the 8525 1. 18% thinner, 2. screen tilts up like a laptop 3. dual-core processor that is MUCH faster then the Mogul in benchmark tests, 4. 3.0mp camera 5. On-board GPS 6. 256mb rom, 128mb program memory..double the mogul/8525 7.its black!

  • pop quiz: Kaiser v. iPhone? given, this forum may be biased … I’m looking for fair comparison in your opinions, since the price is close. Thanks!

  • Im new to this whole high end cell phone game. Can I buy a unlocked phone from ATT directly and would it be cheaper that way?

  • Come visit http://www.htctilt.com , a new discussion forum solely dedicated to HTC enthusiasts like you.

  • I am fairly new to this world of feature drenched qwerty smart phones, so to be honest I am having a hard time justifying spending $450 or $499 for the new Tilt, even though it seems like a sexy device full of cool features, when AT&T will sell me the 8525 for $150 (if I renew for 2 years), which is still a lot of phone for the money. For me there is a big difference between $150 and $450 for a phone.

  • Couple of points
First, the release date is for business2business customers – retail outlets usually get phones about 3-4 weeks after the b2b release.

Second, $499 is not too much. Yeah, you can get a laptop for just a little more – but how often do you carry it? A cell phone you carry ALL the time. So with this, I can toss a laptop, pda, cell phone, and ipod in the trash.

Last (for the bozo that thinks this is a minor upgrade to the 8125, dude you need to get a reality check. Besides the better camera, double the memory, better processor, and tilt, there are 3 letters added which BY ITSELF is worth upgrading — builtin GPS!
(and not the stupid “cell phone tower gps” – the real satelite GPS)

  • Why do people keep comparing phones like this to the iPhone? You are all clueless I guess. The iphone has is bare in features compared to this clas of device. I mean get real. No MMS on iPhone, no 3rd party support for iPhone, no keyboard on iPhone, no enterprise features. All the iPhone is, is a phone with less features than most feature phones with a video player, mp3, cool effects and looks. Once the coolness novelty wears off, your stuck with an overpriced phone without MMS or a library of other programs.

All windows mobile phones kill the iPhone in usable features, and you can extend it by adding lots of 3rd party stuff. So what if it doesn’t have the cool toys? Toys like that have limited life and are novelty at best.

I have friends that got bored of the iPhone and are jealous my phone can do so much more for less money. And the pricing plans for iPhone are outrageous!

  • First, I’d like to address Hightech. Your statement is completely unfair and generalized. I’m work for AT&T and the thing to understand with this company – as is usually true with corporations – is that bottom rung employees are typically the last to know anything. As for looking up info on the net, that is a very credible statement, but also a dangerous one. I personally research phones now and again due to personal interest. But any info I uncover not released by our company I don’t share with customers. Because all internet info is speculation in the eyes of the company and that’s who I represent. I’ve seen customers absolutely livid because info given to them that was not company backed turned out to be false – even when the majority of internet resources said otherwise. So in all fairness, lay off man. I agree that there are many who don’t even take the time to research our own inside info, but seriously, it’d be like me saying all blondes are dumb. Also take into consideration that many times, information on hot high-end items (such as the iPhone) is restricted and for internal use only. So when someone says “I don’t know” it could be because their job is on the line.

Now as for iPhone vs. 8925/Tilt/Kaiser, I personally hate Apple products and even more so the iPhone. But I can tell all who ask without the least bit of bias that the Tilt is a much better device…but for those who NEED it. For a lot of people, the iPhone is a better choice because of its simplicity in both operation and design. But others like me prefer a device that can do it all. The iPhone does not have swappable memory, does not support adding new programs to it, cannot do MMS, has no support for MS Office, only one text input method where the 8125/8525/8925 have at least four (five if you count the ability to sync a bluetooth keyboard), no 3G support (who the hell can even say why), and bad speaker quality for music when compared to the HTC models. There’s a lot more but you get the gist.
I’ll say again though; the iPhone is a great tool for people who just want a really nice, entertainment-laden phone. If you want to be productive with it, go for an HTC.

  • I call BS on the “leaked” release date and it should be promptly retracted. No store I have called this week has confirmed a release date and only 2 out of four stores even knew which device I was referring to.

  • I spoke to someone in commercial sales this week and he claimed that the tilt would be out early October. He had just been briefed on this phone this week.

  • looks like someones credibility is going out the window. i work for att and i can assure this phone will not be out in september.

  • I work at a store. The price of the phone will be $399.99 and have a $50 rebate!

  • Also this phone will be released in Sept. It is on our new phone order phone and we have them on the way

  • Hey j, are you sure? Did you look at the current product release calendar on myCSP?

  • Dave,
Can you provide any information that I can share with my local store so I can get the fire under their asses! I’ve now contacted 6 stores with only 2 aware of the phone at all. One store that was aware of the phone checked their newest invoice for incoming phones and no mention of 8925/tilt. I have the money in hand….just need a phone!

  • Hey jjohnson,
The Tilt is not currently showing up on any list of “soon to launch” phones. It’s pretty much not been even mentioned by the upper management to any of us. As far as I can tell, retail store reps will not really know of the phone till about September 8th. Allegedly, we’re having a training session in our Saturday morning meeting.
We’re getting the phone. And so long as commitments are met and no one screws up, it’ll be this month. I’d say just hang tight for a bit and keep a watch on your local stores.

  • Any idea when it will be availible on the website?

  • nothing in mycsp yet. the rumor below has been confirmed though.

“The AT&T Warehouse is Fort worth Texas or whatever will receive the phone from HTC on Sept 3rd. Not the retail stores, not the Corporate stores, not that guy with the cell phone cart in the mall, JUST the AT&T warehouse.

They will be receiving around 3,000 phones. You MIGHT see the website update to list the phone on Sept 3rd/4th. However, the device will not be widely available until mid-late September.”

  • i just checked today and the guy at at&t said it releases november.. not exact date but sometime then

  • I just don’t get why don’t you have any trusted source from at&t or HTC tellin us the release date? I mean in Europe it is already up and may be as of today you could get it, I am sure. but can you stop it if you not sure when is the release date? I mean sometimes it august, the septemeber, and now october? what is goin gon with you guys, I am so can’t take it anymore, just please stop it, it is driving me crazy….so what if I get this phone, telling my self? but I just can’t sleep to get it….why I don’t know but it just may be caz everyone I know got the stupid Iphone….to me Iphone is like an Island where no one could reach….I mean what a dumb phone has nothing…..come on guys HTC you I am going to KILL YOU if you don’t have it out by septemeber. I can’t take it anymore…………..I feel like..

  • I knew it would not be released on the original date posted and I am in no rush to get the phone. But you got to admit, it is a sweet looking phone and way better functions than the iphone. I feel sorry for the poor souls who happened to buy the iphone only to find out it can do just about anything but wipe their ass. I have a Cingular 8525, and to me that phone changed my life. At first it felt really sluggish with all the bugs that it had. That was until the first firmware upgrade, not a major improvement but it helped. Then came the unofficial release of Windows Mobile 6, which to some was not a big deal but to me it was like getting a new toy. I tried to find all that I can about the 8525 on the internet until I came across a blog which someone happened to mention 8925. At that time I felt this person was joking about it but it turned out to be that 8925 was the HTC Kaiser, which I found it hard to believe since 8525 was released not too long ago. Since then I wanted to get my hands on what is now called the TILT. This baby has everything my 8525 has plus even more. It already comes with Windows mobile 6, it has more memory, cpu speed is about the same but who gives a crap! a 3.0 mp camera. I mean hands down this will be the best phone to come out until the next best thing. I wouldn’t be able to get this phone until December (if I can find one by then) :( and I really haven’t had a chance to go to a local At&t store and heckle a sales rep. about it. But this is truly our version of an iphone, thus I wouldn’t be dumb enough to spend hours on a line only to have someone come out and say only limited amounts of the products would be sold. Even at the price of an iphone we are getting more than it’s worth. So whenever this phone is released I am sure to keep my hopes up and if I’m lucky I’ll be able to get this baby before Christmas. Just can’t wait ……

  • Okay, First of all I can’t sleep without readying a few blogs about this phone, I mean this phone talk to me in my dreams, I am serious. Okay, however, with at&t I am going to pay like 44 for PDA internet, while Tmobile give me the same option for only 20 dollars, this phone is out in Europe, it is sold for about $1000 USD. But you know I am going to wait, I want the phone be out, I want everyone to use it, post their reviews, I am going to go to an at&t and check it out, then look up the internet for the best price, hope to get it unlock or whatever to use it with tmobile, unless at&t will hook me up with iphone internet plan…and yes I want the front camara because this phone seem to be a very long way to replace it since its got everything…I mean why not? listen guys so just go up keep on posting the news, and lie and whatever, I will keep on reading them and beside it keeps me off from watching porn….hehehe okay that was a little for those who are already want to just break up this computer screen and just some how reach and touch this at&t tilt. bye

  • Okay, I went to the at&t store and actually they have it, really? hehehe jk…okay this it how it seem to me when people were posting like hey we have a leak and this and this and it going to be out on september 3rd and it going to have wings, and when it come out it going to fly right to your mail box and right from their it going to come out with a BMW and you can use the GPS and you could actually drive to China from the USA. I mean come on guys, why do you have to post something that is so lie, now I can’t sleep, and I can’t even watch porn, each time I touch my laptop I get on at&t tilt, instead babe tilt, or something…..so for now I am not going to trust anyone…and you guys know its out in Europe? wow really? should I fly and get a few, how much you going to pay? hey listen how about I just fly there and get a few for everyone of you and you just pay for my airline ticket? and plus the cost of the phone? what you say…

  • All Your Tilts Are Belong To Us - September 4th, 2007 at 3:21 pm GMT+5

“hey listen how about I just fly there and get a few for everyone of you and you just pay for my airline ticket? and plus the cost of the phone? what you say…:

CATS: How are you gentlemen !!
CATS: All your base are belong to us.
CATS: You are on the way to destruction.
    Captain: What you say !!

  • So after beating my head against the wall for 45 minutes I got through the maze at AT&T to somebody who seems to have a clue.

Date has been pushed back, blah blah blah. The end result of the conversation was “on 9/14 they will be in the retail stores for you to get one”

  • Since it may take awhile for this phone to come out, I’m thinking I might pick up a slim PSP before I get it. That is due out this month,no?

  • Anyone who is saying that the 8925 is too expensive needs to do some research. The iphone which has WAY LESS to offer is more expensive than the 8925 will be. 8925 is going to be the baddest(meaning best of course) phone available in the United States. Its kinda like a friend of mine put it when he saw the pictures and read up on the specs.. the 8925 slaps the iphone in the mouth! Oh and whoever said the 8125 compares to either the 8525 or the 8925…watch wedding crashers…rule #5…your an idiot!
