On the surface, the Nokia N800 is a fairly simple device. It’s an Internet applicance, or an “Internet Tablet”, as Nokia likes to call it. With it’s built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, it allows you to browse the Web and email pretty much anywhere you’d like, if you’ve got a phone you can tether it to or a hotspot. If not, you’re out of luck.

In the near future, though, you’ll be more connected. Nokia has teamed up with Sprint to include WiMax in new N800s, to work with Sprint’s forthcoming 4G network. Sprint is getting aggressive with its 4G rollout, as the standard allows for voice and data over the same channels, meaning faster bandwidth and cheaper calls.

Also, as the N800 features full Skype support, so it sounds like we’re this close to unlimited calls and data plans, which is what we really, really want.
