A remake of “Marathon” would be more accurate, but in a sense, “doom” is close enough.

Perhaps, Halo 3 wouldn’t exist if it hadn’t been for the success of Doom, but it certainly wouldn’t exist without Marathon paving it’s way.

Halo 3 is another first-person shooter. It’s obviously leaps and bounds beyond something like Doom, but it’s still an FPS like Doom, with a whole mess of extras added onto it. Shoot at badguys while they shoot back at you.. try to get certain acheivements in-order to finish a level and move onto the next one… rinse and repeat.

The similarity is not totally uncalled for, and definately better than suggesting it’s an upgraded version of “Pong” which, to a certain mindset, would also be accurate. It’s a home videogame, and Pong got there first.

I saw the special Halo 3 themed Mountain Dew yesterday (Aug 8th) in Walmart and bought one. It’s a citrus cherry flavor and isn’t bad at all (I’ve not been a fan of most of Dew’s side flavors).

There was no contest though, I was expecting to have a change to win a free copy of Halo 3 or the special edition console.
