Wii Sales Nipping At Xbox 360’s Heels

Xbox 360 might be feeling the hot smelly breath of the Nintendo Wii cascading across its hairy American neck.
According to new video game comparison site VGChartz.com, the Xbox 360 is at 10.32 million consoles sold while the Wii is close behind at 10.10 million consoles. The PS3 brings up the rear at a distant 4.11 million.
Impressive numbers for Nintendo considering that the Xbox 360 had a year-long head start. At the end of the day, however, beating Microsoft might not be that important seeing as though the Nintendo DS is outselling the pants off of everybody at 46.83 million units.

Wow, are you telling me PS3 sold almost half what Xbox 360 sold in only 7 months compared to Xbox 360 which has been out 1 year 7 months?
PS3 must be selling at a faster rate than Xbox 360 then, nobody really seems to realize that… interesting.

What moron takes vgchartz seriously? It is hard to believe that news articles have to be scrutinized like this now. NEWS ALERT: vgchartz.com stinks

@concerned
well concerned, if you would read the ‘how we get our numbers’ bit on the site, you would understand that the numbers are quite reliable.
from following the numbers for the past few months and comparing to the big business trackers like media create and NPD. I can see vgcharts japanese numbers are really good, with only slight discrepancies from media create or famitsu.
USA weekly isnt tracked by NPD but adding weekly data from vgcharts gives close numbers to NPD monthly, and vgcharts alters numbers accordingly if a large difference between NPD monthly and them occurs.
Eu data is more difficult to compare as i dont know much about GFK [the PAL tracker], but i have seen a whole quarter of data change on vgc [for DS and PS3 mainly] to coincide with what i believe must be GFK releasing quarterly numbers… which means that even if weekly it is a bit off, the totals are probably the most accurate out there for worldwide [unless you only want to check numbers whenever GFK, NPD and the Jp trackers release on the same day.]
in fact a few months back vgc lowered the 360 numbers by a few thousand [nothing like the stupidly huge changes on nexgenwars] due to overtracking compared to NPD, so if it is still adding too many 360s, Wii may be even nearer than that.
