Alright, so this is what I think. I think that until one of you readers leaves a comment confirming this unlocking method, it’s just another stupid rumor. Some guy on some forums says that you can buy a Turbo SIM card and can program it to work on your network via the iPhone. So you get the SIM card, you get the iPhone unlocked. All the features too apparently. Sounds fishy.
So T-Mobilers, you should pick up a Turbo SIM and try it out. What do you have to lose besides a $500 iPhone with a voided-warranty?

This is a SIM hack, not an iPhone hack. It’ll work with any locked phone. However it’s illegal in most countries, the UK for instance. Even if it isn’t illegal in your country of origin, it’s detectable by your network provider, and they’ll probably have some questions for you.
The holy grail of unlocking the iPhone, as with any handset, is to reverse engineer an algorithm to generate handset unlock code. That’s what the guys over at iPhone Dev Wiki are trying to do, they same bunch of guys that opened up the platform for native third party applications a few weeks ago…
Like Allan said, it’s not an iPhone hack technically, but a SIM hack. But to the point, it works and isn’t a rumor.
Still waiting for an actual proper unlock, until then, this isn’t much to blink at.
The iPhone blogs I’ve been reading recently have said yes it works, but it isn’t what they are looking for, so they don’t really care all that much. Everyone is waiting for the real thing I think.
Will this still work when the iPhone hardware and software is out of beta? :-)
