Good riddance! Apple today finally pulled the plug on the outdated office suite known as AppleWorks. I remember getting my first Mac, a G3 iBook, and having to deal with this craptastic software. Terrible word processor and a useless paint utility come to mind. Last true version was 6.0 and died out in the 1990s.

So what to use instead? OpenOffice, xPad, TextEdit, and plenty of others come to mind. Even Word is decent in OS X!

  • Vince,

AppleWorks, well actually its predecessor ClarisWorks did sterling service for me during three years of university, completing all my term papers and my dissertation. It also made finding a job much easier as its simple flatfile database package allowed me to manage my CV mailout and interview process landing on the first steps of my current career.

It was like a grand old dame whose time had already come.

    Best regards,

    Ged

  • For the time Vince, Appleworks was pretty much the only way to get any database related project going, there was filemakerpro but that was complicated and clarisworks actually was pretty good too… it’s been so long, I don’t even remember much of these programs anymore anyhow.

  • Try NeoOffice. Much nicer than Open Office on a Mac and it’s the same source code.
