Phillipe Starck Watches: Cantelievered For Her Pleasure

starck_fossil_2.jpgNo word on price or availability, but these oddly designed Phillipe Starck watches just might make me turn back into a Fossil lover. The movement is inside that little chunk in the middle and the hands are set at tangets to the central pivot, adding a little extra to the entire design. Cool stuff.

While you’re looking at those watches, why not pick up a Jensen NV225 GPS Unit? It has a 3.5-inch tocuhscreen and stores up to 1 GB of maps and POIs. Nice, right? Send an email to contest@crunchgear.com with the subject line “JENSEN GPS.”

  • [I know I probably shouldn't flame here... oh well]

Come on, what are you writing about? Starck makes the most over-hyped pieces of crap, ever!

Wow, an orange juicer that doesn’t catch the pips. Or his last watch (again Fossil – which makes quality watches if they’re not making his) that makes it almost impossible to read the time.

How can you even think about promoting products from the man who brings you http://www.philippe-starck.com/ ?!

  • Wow, these watches are super cool. From a pure design stand-point I don’t think there is a better watch out there . . .unless you are willing to spend $12,000 on a watch. For $150, that’s some good design.

I love this brand! One of these will make 4 Starck watches for me. So excited!

  • Tarwin, I guess that is your opinion on Starck’s products. And, as you have such a well known name in the design world, I guess we should all listen to you and not talk about nobody’s like Starck. I mean, he is no one in the design world compared to you…

Have you ever stopped to think that design and art run a fine line next to and, often times, on top of each other? So his juicer isn’t necessarily a functional, utilitarian piece, you could buy one of those for about 99 cents. People buy his juicer because they have an emotional connection to it. no one would spend $80 dollars on a manual juicer unless the really felt some affection for it. This might or might not be the same case for the watches. The one you refer to, that you say you cannot tell the time, the idea behind it is clearly for it to be more of a bracelet, a fashion piece than a time piece. If it were a time piece it could just have easily have been a $10 Casio from Wal-Mart.

My point is, you might not like it, fair enough. But to say that it shouldn’t be promoted or talked about will not inspire anything or anyone.
