24inchers

If you’ve been waiting to pull the trigger on a gigantic 24″ monitor, now might be the time to buy. Micro Center and Office Max each have ‘em, one that’s $299 after $100 rebate and one that’s $299 out the door.

Micro Center has the Acer X241Wsd for $399 with a $100 MIR, good through September 2nd. There’s a Micro Center about two blocks from my house so I stopped in to see the monitor a couple of days ago and it’s pretty beautiful. I’m working off of a 19″ widescreen Acer and it’s been nothing but solid. The 24″ version has VGA and DVI inputs, 1920×1200 resolution, 5ms response time, 400 cd/m2 brightness, and a 1000:1 contrast ratio.

Office Max will be offering a 24″ Soyo widescreen starting tomorrow, August 19th, for $299 (no rebate required). Details are scant at this point except that it’s known to have a 1000:1 contrast ratio and I’d expect it to have the requisite 1920×1200 resolution and DVI/VGA inputs. It’ll be in Office Max’s Sunday circular tomorrow.

Dell has sort of been the gold standard for the affordable 24″ monitor, which is currently priced at $569.99, so you’d be saving a pretty good wad by trying out the Acer or the Soyo. Happy shopping!

  • It’s no wonder Dell is losing market share when they’re trying to sell a 24″ monitor for $560 and you can buy it at the local store for $300. They need to get back on the ball and start competing.
