Dell Failing in Consumer Satisfaction Sez WSJ

dell_dude3a.jpgI’d love to give you more information on this story, but the Wall Street Journal is still rocking the “walled garden” approach to newsgathering so we’ll paraphrase and link to a blog that deserves linkage.

The story essentially says that even as Dell aims at the consumer market, they’ve been futzing up big time. Their fancy colored laptops, for example, are usually unavailable and when they arrive the paint has dust embedded in it, giving that “I spray-painted my own Camaro” effect we all know and love.

Not huge news, but an interesting look at how a company — in an effort to turn around it’s consumer popularity — essentially screws up again and again.

  • I am currently in the market for a new laptop and have really been looking at the Dell 1720. But with stories like this it makes me want to look around a bit more. Can you guys suggest a good laptop. My wife and I hope to buy 1 for each of us in about 2 to 3 months and hope to spend around $2k each.

Any suggestions? Mostly use them for WiFi internet browsing (no paid plans – already have broadband in the home), multimedia (music, movies, photos, etc.) minor photo and video editing.

I will use mine more for the Movies, photos and general internet browsing.

    Thanks for any info!

  • I’m sure the insides aren’t bad – a laptop is a laptop is a laptop – and PC Mag says it’s OK: http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1895,2165068,00.asp

This looks like issues further up the supply chain which shouldn’t effect average buyer.
