Gizmodo got a letter from Apple asking them to take down the images of the little fat Nanos we’ve been seeing all day, which in legal talk means blood will soak the halls of Cupertino tonight as the leakers are tortured long into the morning.
[Update: Apple's lawyers came at us and demanded we remove the photo because it "violates Apple's copyrights". So we've replaced it with this hastily rendered mock-up of a spy shot that's sure to enter our inbox soon. -Matt]

I really think those designs are phony…. just a red herring planted in the blogger community to get the buzz machine going. Apple sending out requests to remove them just gets everyone even more charged up.
If you look at Apple’s current industrial design aesthetic (the aluminum iMac, keyboards and iPhone) these just don’t fit in. I’d give it a few weeks for the REAL designs to surface just in time for holiday gift buyers.
I’m not quite sure what this design makes me want to do… Vomit, or crap myself.
Quite probably both actually… And not for the good reasons.
Oh and surely they can’t claim fuck all about intellectual property if it is – in fact – not their intellectual property.
That would have been like them whining about all the fake iphone designs all those years back. They can’t whine if it’s not theirs. Surely?
ummm not sure if you have looked at Gizmodo’s coverage of this story, basically they think that if it is the new nano that its ugly. Gizmodo, i would like to draw your attention to your site design, please hire someone who knows what they are doing, as the only ugly thing about the new nano ’shots’ is the baby blue page the image sits on…
Design-wise, this actually isn’t too far off from the 2G shuffle, so it is somewhat believable. Center the controls, make it a clickwheel and add a screen.
Zune 2.0 has a fighting chance if these butt ugly devices surface!

If you zoom in on the photo you can see that its been f’d with. Look at the right side. If this was the real nano then there would be no reason to mask the background out. THIS IS FAKE!

yes. this one is fake, made by hickey in about 5 minutes. the “flower” version was “real,” at least according to apple.
apple should be sued for this if true.
@ Lefty: WTF? You did read the article, the part where it says it’s a hastily made mock-up? Yes, it’s fake. We sorta said, “Here’s a fake version cuz Apple won’t let us post the real one!”
